one major sector in Nigeria that is not receiving much attention, is the fishing business.
Sweden ($3.7 Billion USD) ...
Chile ($4.0 Billion USD) ...
Canada ($4.2 Billion USD) ...
India ($4.6 Billion USD) ...
USA ($5.1 Billion USD) ...
Vietnam ($5.8 Billion USD) ...
Norway ($8.8 Billion USD) ...
China ($14.1 Billion USD) Since 2002, China has been the world's largest exporter of fish and seafood products.
while other countries are making billions through the export of seafood Nigeria remains one of the country(ies) in Africa that has refuse to boost it fishing business siting inland water area as one of its major problem forgetting that it is not just about the water size but the manner at which the business is been done. before independence fishing business was very lucrative as most people who were into fishing business were proud to be called fisher men. today the system has change the only species of fish that is making people millionaires today are catfish and tilapia. fishing business is beyond just having a fish pond that is filled with catfish alone. majority of those who went into fish business in Nigeria are no longer in business because of the inability to study the business and grow beyond where they are.
The fishing industry includes, culturing, processing, preserving, storing, transporting, marketing or selling fish or fish products. not many know that apart from having a pond you can decide to go into other areas of the business.
this year if you are looking for where to invest, think very well because there are sectors that seriously have low numbers of stakeholders.
you can pick any of the part you can handle and invest in it. every sector in fish business is lucrative.
