Communicable diseases are those diseases that are transferred from person to person which may also be through inanimate objects. All around us, we find the causative organisms of these diseases which may be Bacteria, Virus, Algae, Protozoa or Fungi.

The two most common and most deadly are bacteria and viruses, and they constitute a bulk of common diseases and infections all around us especially in the temperate regions of the world. Vivid examples include Tuberculosis, cholera, typhoid fever, whooping cough, Lassa fever, Ebola fever, measles, poliomyelitis, dysentery, staphylococcus spp., etc.

The transmission of these diseases may be through some media which many of us are quite unaware of but are leading to serious debilitation. Few of such include

1. Toilet door/handle:
It is unarguably one of the foremost places where infections can be transferred to others. Even when toilet floors, seats and environs are cleaned, the door handle is often neglected and with the number of touches it receives daily, you can bet what you might be contacting.

2. Mobile Phones:
Another source of diseases transmission is our mobile phone. Used everywhere and almost everytime by everyone, the phone, especially smartphones carry millions of disease-causing organisms. Phones are often taken to the toilet and later to the kitchen while some people even put the same phone in their mouth as torch light.

3. Books:
Since books cannot be washed or cleaned, they carry a lot of germs which have been contributed by various hands handling them. They are also kept, often times in conditions that favour the growth of microbes.

4. Money:
We work for it, hustle, bustle, slave and labour for it. But unfortunately, while trying to lay hold on it, it sometimes becomes a source of infection. You must have seen people hide money in bra, pants, socks, dirty hands, under carpet, in the ceiling, purse, etc. Also, one note of money might have passed through many individuals like cashier, conductor, driver, waste collector, market women, bank teller, hairdresser, Tailor, native doctor, nurse, and the list goes on. 5. Ladies Bag:
You will agree with me that women and their bags are like 5&6. They go with it to the mall, market, school, visit friends, toilets, parties and so on. During the transfer, the bag comes in contact with all forms of disease causing organisms and may lead to infection of the carrier and others around her. Your earpiece carries millions of microorganisms out of which bacteria and viruses form a large percentage. This is because the air is filled with abundant microbes which attach itself to gadgets. When introduced into the ear, new microbes go along with it and ear infection may likely follow.

8. Public Transport:
Because of its nature of being public, it attracts both the sick and healthy, fit and tired, young and old, clean freak and dirty pig, male and female, holy and filthy, healthy disease carrier and visibly diseased individual. The list goes on and on. And since you may not be able to carry a microscope around to determine where germs have been, you may hold where disease causing organisms have been kept. A sneeze, for example, can distribute quite a number of bacteria in a public bus.

9. Fingernails:
Do I need to say much about this? Just look under your fingernails right now, what do you see? It harbours quite a number of disease-causing germs which may give you infections. Before you dispute this, just look back at the last ten minutes, how many times have you scratched your head, hair, body, table, book, phone, face and even burst that pimples on your face?
