10. Honda Accord
The Honda Accord is always considered to be one of the safest cars in the world. This year is no different. The Accord has been praised for its reliable handling and high level of safety. You can choose from the two-door or the four-door variety. The two-door Accord boasts of a sporty look, but the four-door allows easier access to the rear seats. It is now in its ninth generation though it has now been reclassified from a full-size car to a mid-size one with its interior space of just 119 square feet. The car scored highly in safety features, be they be in frontal driver, frontal passenger, side driver, side passenger, side pole driver and rollover.
9. Chrysler 200 Four-Door Sedan
The Chrysler 200 is the company’s entry-level luxury mid-size vehicle. It first came out in 2011 as an update of the 2010 Chrysler Sebring. Its prototype was the Chrysler 300, which is probably why it is said to be a scaled down version of the latter. The model also has a two-door convertible version, but it is the four- door sedan version that has gotten raves for its safety and reliability. This vehicle, however, is not expected to stay long on the market as a second-generation model. It’s expected in auto shows by the first month of 2014.
8. Dodge Avenger
The Dodge Avenger is a front-wheel drive, mid-size vehicle from Chrysler Corporation that it markets under the Dodge name. It originally came out as a two- door coupe in 1995 before the company halted its production in 2000. After eight years, the model was reintroduced to the market but this time, it was built as a four-door sedan. Users can choose between a four-speed or six-speed automatic transmission. The suspension of the new Dodge Avenger has been revised quite extensively to improve the quality of the ride, as well as its handling features.
7. Ford Fusion
The Ford Fusion is a mid-size car from the Ford Motor Company. It has been in production since 2006. The company had seen rough times in the past but it has slowly but surely regained a foothold in the North American, and even worldwide, automobile market. The Fusion itself has had its share of setbacks, with recent versions getting recalled for engine fires. The total number of vehicles recalled was 89,000, though this figure included those of the Escape. Models built after December 2012, however, have easily exceeded safety standards.

The Kia Optima is a mid-size four-door sedan from Kia Motors. It first came into production in 2000 as a rebadged variant of the Hyundai Sonata. In 2011, the car was completely redesigned. It was first unveiled during the New York Auto Show of 2010 and it immediately drew raves for its sleek and sporty profile. This overhaul in aesthetics was then complemented by the introduction of several safety features and improvements. This has allowed the Kia Optima to attain the highest safety grade for production vehicles.
5. Nissan Altima Four-Door Sedan
The Nissan Altima is a mid-size sedan from the Japanese automaker Nissan. It initially came out in 1993 as the continuation of the Bluebird line, which had been in production since 1957. In 2011, the Altima became the second best selling car in the United States. It also has a compact version, but it is the four-door sedan that got the honor for its safety and reliability. Altima sedans built after November 2012 features several safety improvements to complement the car’s style and performance.
4. Subaru Legacy and Outback
The Subara Legacy is a mid-size car from the Japanese manufacturer Subaru. It has been in production since 1989. It is the flagship car of the company and it competes directly with the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord. There are also variants that feature high-performance and they are offered as an alternative to the BMW Series 3, Audi A4 and the Alfa Romeo 159. It is now in its fifth generation and the current look has been retained since 2010. Not much has changed since that year, though the company has constantly added minor improvements. Models built after August 2012 have shown remarkable safety improvements, thus allowing the car to make the list. The Outback model is also included. It was built based on the Legacy platform and provides a safe and viable alternative in wagon form.
3. Acura TL
The Acura TL is a mid-size luxury sedan from Honda. It has been in production since 1996 and was once the best selling model from Acura. It also was ranked once as the second best selling luxury sedan, just after the BMW 3 Series. However, the Acura TL has been criticized for its styling the past few years and as a result, sales have dropped dramatically by up to 50 percent. It is now in its fourth generation. Still, as it comes from the same people behind the Honda Accord, it has made the TL the only luxury sedan to make the safest cars list.
2. Volvo S60
The Volvo S60 is a compact executive car from the Swedish automobile giant Volvo. The car has been in production since 2000, though only two generations have been released so far. The company has always marketed itself for its cars safety features and record. The S60 is no different, as it has easily passed safety standard inspections with flying colors. It received a five-star rating from both American and European safety inspection agencies.

The Volkswagen Passat is a large family car from the German maker Volkswagen. It has been in production since 1973 and has seen six generations of design. The ones built after October 2012 have received excellent safety ratings for its handling, features and reliability.
