The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), has announced that it will start a one-week notice strike on Monday.

ASUP described that this became crucial as the federal government denied to improve polytechnic education in the country.

The Union’s South-South/South-East Coordinator, Dr. Chika Ogonwa, mentioned this on Sunday in Asaba, stating that they will start an indefinite strike, if the government failed to resolve all issues within the 1 week.

Ogonwa said the FG had failed to start re-negotiation of the ASUP/Government agreement of 2010 on the review of the Federal Polytechnics Act.

“Effective from tomorrow (Monday), the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has lifted the ban on its deferred industrial action against the near collapse of the sector in Nigeria. The 1 week warning strike stops February 5th.

“President Muhammadu Buhari-led government is insensitive to our plight. After this warning strike, the Federal Government will be left with two options – either to close down the method or redeem it from total collapse”, he declared.
