Heart disease is fast becoming a regular ailment in our modern world with increasing stress rates and fast foods rich in cholesterol. EATING 1 OR 2 SERVINGS OF FISH A WEEK COULD REDUCE YOUR RISK OF GOING DOWN WITH A HEART ATTACK.

Experts have recommended that people eat fish rich in OMEGA-3-FATTY acids @ least twice a week. Doctors have long believed that the unsaturated fats in fish called omega-3 fatty acids are very potent in helping reduce the risk of heart disease.

WHY OMEGA-3? Omega-3 fatty acids are type of unsaturated fatty acid that may reduce inflammation throughout the body. Inflammation in the body can damage the blood vessels and lead to heart disease. Omega-3 fatty acids can reduce triglycerides, lower blood pressure, reduce blood clotting, decrease stroke and heart failure, and reduce irregular heartbeats, while in children it may improve learning abilities. Eating @ least 1 or 2 servings of fish a week especially those fish rich in omega-3 may reduce the risk of getting a cardiac arrest.

WILL ANY KIND OF FISH DO? Fishes such as SALMON, LAKE TROUT, HERRING, COD, TUNA and SARDINE contain lots of omega-3 fatty acid and hence they are the most recommended.

HOW ABOUT QUANTITY? Well for adults, @ least 2 servings of healthy fish very rich in omega-3 fatty acids are recommended. A serving size according to experts is 3.5 ounces (99 grams). Children and pregnant mothers are however advised to limit the amount of fish. This is owing to the fact that the women and children stand a higher risk if reacting to the potential effects of some toxins found in the fish.
