If there is one thing that the enemy likes to do so much to us, it’s to stop us from drawing near to God. Satan is obsessed with making sure that none of us will get close to the one who created us. And because we are made to worship God, the devil came up with schemes that will stop us from doing so. Here are three common ways that Satan use to stop us from worshiping:
1. Distraction
This is basically on the top of Satan’s list–to distract you from your focus on God. Ever notice how there are times when you are praying and communing with God then all of a sudden random thoughts of the past seems to pop up and your mind starts to wander? Whether it is as simple as thinking if you have left the iron unplugged or that bad thing you did yesterday or 5 years ago, Satan will always find a way to get you out of focus on God.
2. Offense
Proverbs 18:19 New Living Translation (NLT) says, “An offended friend is harder to win back than a fortified city. Arguments separate friends like a gate locked with bars.”
When we have an offended heart, it hinders us from fully surrendering things to God, blocking our craving for God’s presence. Offense make us unyielding. Satan encourages offenses in our hearts because he knew this will crimp our desire to worship God thus making way for condemnation and pride.
3. Guilt
Satan Loves to torment you with guilt and shame. He makes sure to condemn you with the things you did a week or 10 years ago. He wants to fill our heads with lies about God. Lies like, we will never be enough, or that God has not forgiven us. When this happens, all the more, draw closer to God and declare his promises over your life. Condemnation is never from God, it is the work of Satan (see John 3:17). He wants us to forget our God-given identities that we are set free and forgiven to keep us from worshiping God.
