Portuguese giants FC Porto have included Chidozie Awaziem to their updated Champions League squad, although the defender has only been included in the team's provisional list.

Awaziem first game for Fc Porto featuring the full 90 minutes in a 0–2 away loss against C.D. Feirense for the Taça da Liga, 2016 and makes his league debut on February 2016, in a 2-1 win over Benfica due to the club's defensive injuries.

The 20-year old Nigerian has been added to a standby list by the former European champions ahead of the start of Champions League knockout phase.

UEFA's rule on how a player qualifies on for a placement in the B list states:

A player may be registered on List B if he is born on, or after, 1 January 1995 and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday (players aged 16 may be registered if they have been registered with the club for the previous two years). Clubs are entitled to register an unlimited number of players on List B during the season, but the list must be submitted by no later than 24:00CET the day before a match.

FC Porto will battle it out with the Old Ladies( Juventus) in the knockout stages of the competition and Awaziem, who has previously been called by Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr for an international friendly game against Mali and Luxembourg could feature for the Portuguese giants.

Elsewhere, two other Nigerian descent have also been included in Arsenal's Champions League squad, the club submitted an updated Champions League squad to Europe;s football governing body (UEFA) but despite Gunners having as many as ten Nigerian talents at the club, just two have been picked to be worthy of a place in the new Champions League updated squad list.


Tolaji Bola and Alex Iwobi are the only Nigerians on the list, while Chuba Akpom who is on a season end loan to Brighton will miss out the chance to feature in the knockout phase of the competition.
