The quest for Lagos State best snooker player will begin on the 29th of April 2017, at Ikeja Club, 23, Obafemi Awolowo way, opposite medical road, Ikeja, Lagos.
The event which will be the first of its kind in Lagos will be organized by Sarnimas and its general manager, Ibrahim Idris hopes there will be many more.

Snooker is a cue sport played on a table covered with a green cloth or baize with pockets at each of the four corners and in the middle of each of the long side cushions.
Professional players compete regularly around the world. The premier tournament being the World Snooker Championship is held annually in Sheffield, England.
However, Nigeria the most populated country in Africa doesn’t have a representative despite snooker being played in every nook and cranny of Lagos.

Idris emphasized the importance of games like snooker to Lagos and Nigeria at large and urged everyone to get involved in order to make it a professional sport and reduce youth restiveness.

"We’re trying to leave a lasting legacy by being the first to organize a snooker competition in this country. The maiden edition will be in Lagos. In almost every bar you visit in Lagos, you will find people, especially youths playing snooker. However, this game that is very popular on the streets has not been maximized as it should. Sarniams is seeking to bring snooker to the fore officially in Nigeria.” he said.

“The trending word in Nigeria is recession and as a result of recession, many people have lost their jobs. We have so many unemployed youths in Nigeria now that it has become a security threat. Unemployment begets social vices. One of the major ways to curb social vices is to encourage the youths to engage in games and sporting activities. This competition is coming at a critical time in this country.”
He further stated that, “With a population of about 200 million, there is abundant talent in Nigeria, so we should be involved in many games. We hope to expand in the nearest future by hosting a national competition where people from all over the country will be able to participate.” He said.

The forms are available for N3000 and can be obtained at Ikeja Club 23, Obafemi Awolowo way, opposite medical road, Ikeja, Lagos. Closing date for purchasing the form is April 28. You can reach Ibrahim Idris on 07038445547.
