Ghanaian Al-Ahli star is one of 40 players who has breached the Arab nation's rules on hairstyles
FORMER Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan has been found guilty of having ‘unethical HAIR’. The Ghanaian is on loan at Dubai-based Arabian Gulf League club Al-Ahli from Shanghai SIPG.
He is one of 40 players found to have breached Saudi Arabian hairstyle rules. In 2012, Saudi Arabia and Al Shabab keeper Waleed Abdullah was told to cut his “un-Islamic hair” by the referee before kick off.
Islamic teachings have been known to ban ‘Qaza’ hairdos – which include mohawks – because parts of the head remain unshaven.
Gyan, 31, showed off his new mohawk – complete with a ‘w’-shaped design shaved into the side – during the African Nations Cup.
Gyan moved to the Saudi league on loan from Sunderland in 2012 with Al Ain. The forward signed permanently for the club the following season but joined Chinese Super League outfit SIPG in 2015, before returning on loan with Al-Ahli. The Ghana captain saw his side lost 2-0 to eventual champions Cameroon in the semi-final.
