Remember Nokia — that giant mobile telecommunication company that use to top the mobile phone industry in the 90s? sure you do. If you were born in the 90s or earlier then you have definitely used or heard of them, and you probably also know that devices were almost as strong as a stone? Lols just kidding.. But you get the picture right?. Back then in the 90s and early 2000s, Nokia was that one brand everyone would recommend.



Nokia had it all in-terms of device toughness/strength, style/design, operating system, In-fact Nokia was that phone brand who did no wrong until they actually did. But hold on a second! we haven’t heard much about Nokia in last 7 – 10 years, So what happened to them? Did they fold up? Or did users got bored of their devices?



NB: Did you know that Nokia the first phone brand that support SMS(short message service) which was first released on a device name Nokia 2010 back in 1994.



What caused Nokia’s fall

It’s simple, Nokia fell because they refused to go into the smartphone game early. In the early 2000s Nokia was still dominating the mobile phone industry even with other big competitors like HTC, Samsung, Motorola, Sonny Erricson etc.

But something happened in 2007 — Apple released the most innovated touchscreen device anyone had yet seen and in the following year, HTC released the first device to run an android operating system. With these two device in the market, it seems like Nokia’s biggest fear is coming to reality.

Nokia still did not join the smartphone game but they of course came up with something to balance the equation — This was when Nokia fully embraced the Symbian operating system and started making more Symbian devices. But this was no match to the apple iPhone or the fellow android phone and as a result they started loosing users.

Few years latter Nokia decided to join the smartphone world and at that time they already lost a great number of loyal users. Even when they joined the smartphone world, they did not start with the android operating system but instead went in partnership with Microsoft to produce a smartphone that runs on windows operating system.



In partnership with Microsoft, Nokia created and released the Nokia lumia series. The Nokia lumia was perfect but the only thing users complain about was that “there is little or no apps in the windows store ” This complain affected the sale of the device and once again Nokia devices were been rejected by many.

One of the deal included in the Nokia’s partnership with Microsoft was that “Nokia will Not release any other device in the brands name”. This means that Nokia will not release any other device under the Nokia brand except the Microsoft device.

After a while Microsoft removed the Nokia from the names of their device making Nokia completely silence e.g Nokia lumia Bleep became lumia Bleep



Nokia plans to make android device again

The Nokia partnership with Microsoft has ended a few months ago and Nokia are now free to produce and release a device under the Nokia brand again. Last year Nokia said that it will join the android world and start producing android devices in 2017.

In January 2017 Nokia’s first android phone was released – Nokia 6. Nokia’s 2017 comeback is not just to make android devices, it seems like they have much in-stock for you as they were also they first to talk about 5G Network development.
