Gtbank – Principals Cup Season 8 Kicks Off by cheapgoals(m): 4:20am On Feb 20, 2017
The annual GTBank Lagos Principal cup will kick start this week, as no less than 400 schools will be participating in this year's tournament.

The tournament is aimed to capture students through football and also provides an avenue for nurturing, identifying, and grooming young talented players as well encourage students to work towards their dream of becoming world class superstars.

A top official of GTBank, speaking at the pre-tournament press conference on Friday, Oyinade Adegbite claims:

apart from helping in identifying and nurturing budding talents, “the competition also promotes the core values of excellence and competition in the participating students.”

While Managing Director/CEO of the bank Mr Segun Agbaje recalled that “this tournament has helped to participate students to actualizing their dreams of becoming professional footballers and some of them have made a career out of football.”

He stated that the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) top goal scorer Steven Odey who plies trade with the Lagos-based club MFM C as one of the finishing product of GTBank Lagos Principal Cup, Odey was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the 2012 edition.

The tournament host is to provide every football infrastructure equipment such as a beep, balls, goal post and all for the schools throughout the tournament.

Meanwhile, last year's edition was won by Dairy Farm Senior Secondary School of Agege and defending champion, Ikotun Girls Senior High school.

The 2012 and 2014 champions Dairy Farm beat Ejigbo Senior Secondary School 6-1 while Ikotun Girls Senior High school defeat CMS Girls Senior Secondary School 2-0 at the main bowl of Teslim Balogun Stadium

At the end of the tournament, cash prizes of N1,000,000, N750,000, N500,000 and N250,000 will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place winners in the male and female categories.
