It doesnt matter what year it was produced.......a 2003 model year is a 2003 model year. Even if you consider production time it cannot be more that 2 years.

Except if you want to consider cosmetically upgraded model years.

Apparently the person I qouted was allerging that since the car in question is a 2003 model and the dealer said the ride has been used for barely a year, that it isn't possible.


I was only trying to let him know that just because a car is a 2003 model doesn't mean it was bought and produced 2003.

But that is wasn't produced in 2003 is not plausible. Since you know so much about cars you should know that the vehicle will always carry the date it was manufactured. In this case the OP said 2003. There is no reason for us to believe otherwise.

Not necessarily. Sometimes they are manufactured the previous year. Infact in the US, some vehicles go on sale a full year before their actual model year.

The point you are missing is that Model year and Manufacture date are different. That a car was manufactured in 2003 does not make it a 2003 model. A 2003 model may have been manufactured sometime in 2002. But you can never find a 2003 model that was manufactured in 2004. That can never happen. It is illegal. Model years may carry over the version of the previous model year.

So when a person says his car is a 2003 model, it is because that is the date it carries on the label plate on the car.

the VIN on a car will carry the year it came off the manufacturing line.. of course a car manufactured in 2003 may remain in the dealership as brand new until its first purchase in 2016.. which will make the care barely a year old.. but trust me.. i sure say the VIN on this car fit be 2002 sef.. making it 15 years..lol
