What To Do After Your Diagnosis For Lung Cancer? by KimmieRollison: 10:25am On Feb 21, 2017
Patients may experience a variety of emotions when they are first diagnosed with lung cancer. These could include confusion, fear, anger, loneliness & more including reactions of the family members, cost of treatment & survival itself. Moreover, they will now have to take important decisions regarding their lung cancer treatment. The first steps they should be taking after lung cancer diagnosis includes the following.

Expressing Emotions
Expressing emotions can be extremely important apart from having to deal with lung cancer symptoms. Patients must therefore find people with whom they feel safe to vent & express their emotions. It is also okay for lung cancer patients to express their guilt & disappointment in case they were smoking in the past. However, insensitive comments from well-meaning friends may be painful & difficult to cope with. Nevertheless, lung cancer is a scary condition & therefore it is okay to admit being afraid. Some lung cancer patients also find it helpful to sort out their feelings with help of relevant journals.

Evaluating Support System
Patients will need to carefully evaluate their support system as to the role of loved ones in the upcoming lung cancer treatment. They will need friends who can be near them & accompany during visits to the hospital. While some friends seem to vanish following lung cancer diagnosis, there will be many others who will come out & help. Moreover, each individual copes with disease in unique ways based upon their personalities & experiences from the past. Choosing the right oncologist & the right lung cancer treatment center is also a very important step following lung cancer diagnosis. Other questions which patients need to ask themselves is that, are they willing to travel for affordable lung cancer treatments or is it important for them to be near the family.

Considering a Second Opinion
Sometimes, considering taking a second opinion can be comforting. However, this does not amount to betraying the doctor who first made the diagnosis. Second opinions are extremely helpful in coping with diseases like cancer. It would help to understand that even if the doctor had faced with lung cancer diagnosis he or she would have sought several opinions as well before undergoing lung cancer treatment.

Conclusion
If cost is of concern to the lung cancer patient, they can take solace in the fact that lung cancer treatments which are at par with the best in the world are available at low cost. Moreover, oncologists in India are globally renowned to be some of the best in the world. It would therefore be sensible that they search for online medical tourism options for affordable lung cancer treatments beyond their homeland. After all why pay more, when you can get the best for less.
