From Reuters: A pilot and four American passengers were killed on Tuesday when a small plane crashed into the roof of a shopping mall few minutes after taking off from an airfield outside Melbourne, Australia's second-largest city, police said.

Victoria state police assistant commissioner, Stephen Leane, told reporters in Melbourne that, it was a twin-turboprop Beechcraft King air plane, and it suffered an engine failure and crashed into the mall near the end of the runway at Essendon Airport.

Witnesses told Autralian associated press that the plane exploded on impact.

He added, the crash took place at around 9am, about some hours before the mall was due to open and there were no casualties, apart from those aboard the aircraft.
