Military Job by sledgehammer123: 10:29am On Feb 23, 2017
Military job as appropriately captured by Charles de Gore a French General who said and i quote "Men who adopt the profession of arms submit to their own free will to a law of perpetual constraint of their own accord. They resist their right to live where they choose, to say what they think, to dress as they like, it needs but an order to settle from their family and dislocate their normal lives. In the world of command they must rise, march, run, and endure bad weather, go without sleep or food, be isolated in some distant post, work until they drop. If they drop in their tracks, if their ashes are scattered to the four winds, that is all part and parcel of their job".
Nigerian Armed Forces has institutionalized welfare for its personnel having realised how important welfare is in military service. this welfare arrangement is not a compensation for service rendered by its personnel, but its intended to appreciate the job the military is doing. All over the world, militaries are given maximum attention regarding their welfare and training. The welfare available in Nigerian Armed forces include, but not limited to the following:

• Nigerian Army Welfare Insurance Scheme
• Nigerian Army Post Housing Scheme
• Group Life Assurance
• Benevolent Fund
• Scholarship Of Dependants (4x Children From Primary Up To University Level
• Ration Cash Allowance (RCA)
• Duty Tour Allowance(DTA)

However, those in operation, either international security operation like the one in the North East, Niger Delta and other places in addition to an institutionalized welfare package which is cal called Ration Cash Allowance (RCA) there is operational Allowance which are all paid to troops in local operation on monthly basis. Similarly those on peace support operations either under united Nation Umbrella or African Union as the case may be are equally given their allowances on monthly basis which is a flat rate of $1,000 each of these allowances are paid to troops. However, due to the introduction of TSA there could be delay in disbursement, but that does not mean the money will not be paid. Therefore, the military high command liaises with relevant agencies to effect payment . Hence all soldiers in operation either internal or UN is hereby rest assured that their money is for them and as usual, due process must be followed to source for the money payment.

As military personnel, there are expectations among which are discipline, being mindful of statements and utterances, adherence to channels of communication amongst others. Recently soldiers used the social media platform to post unprofessional comments alleging that their allowances were not paid to them, pointing accusing fingers at the military high command.

A delay of few days or weeks should not make our men complain on social media. You can channel your grievances to the appropriate office within the military circle. Efforts put in place by the government and the military leadership to make you comfortable should be appreciated and not condemned. The money you have earned through your hard work cannot be taken away from you, it's a right that you cannot be denied of by anyone. You don't have to resolve to making noise on social media platform.

What makes you a military personnel is not just the uniform, but you imbibing all the tenets of the job as encapsulated by Charles de Gaulle.
Patience is the only answer, and with the military Leadership we have, no kobo of yours can miss.
