Consider this:
Existence takes different forms which may be plant, animal, human (and a lot more we may not even be aware of). And of all these forms, there are male and female. But let's take to the animals that are closer to us.
Is it also society that taught each animal to be as they are and act the way they do? On their own, they assume their roles, the females being female and males being male. And while I acknowledge that as human beings we are animals of higher intelligence, I'm using this to get somewhere.
Have you not noticed that the female dog for instance, is often more aggressive?That the female lion is not only the deadlier one, but the one who goes out to hunt for feed?
