II. ORDINAL NUMBERS
Ordinal numbers are formed by adding ième to the last consonant of the cardinal number.
Ex: -troisième /truwazieme/ third
-Cinquante-deuxième /senkant doughzieme/ fifty-second
- Mille huit cent cinquante-sixième /mil wit san senkant siziem/ one thousand eight hundred and fifty-sixth.
- Centième /santieme/ hundredth
-Millième /miliem/ thousandth
Except that:
1 first is premiere /premieh/ (feminine première /premier/).but un in compound numbers forms unième.
Ex: -cent unième /san uniem/ one hundred and one
-Vingt et unième /veng te uniem/ twenty-first
-Quatre-vingt-unième /katr veng te uniem/ eighty-first
2 fifth is cinquième /senkiem/ while nineth is neuvième /noeviem/.
Ex: la cinquième fois /la senkiem fwa/ the fifth time
La neuvième année /la noeviem anay/
3 ordinals can also be used to denote chapters,act,scenes,and volumes.
Ex: chapitre troisième /shapitr truwaziem/ Third chapter
Acte cinquième /act senkiem/ fifth act


NOTE:
The common abbreviations for ordinals are:
1er =premier
2e =deuxième
3e =troisième
4e =quatrième
etc.
