Cultism can be joined by people for particular reasons. It might be that they join for a selfish desire of controlling the world or wealth.

Although, the societal values has depreciated, the causes of cultism around the globe are part of the indiscipline and corruption that are eating deep in the society. Listed below are some of the causes;-

Poverty/Instability of Economy: For years now, Nigerians are faced with either increase in fuel pump price or increase in food stuff or the drastically falling of Naira in the international market. People are suffering with government lending their deaf ears. Some investors are leaving the country thereby causing loss of jobs for many and unemployment for the masses. Students find it hard to buy necessary books and handout. People are confused and desperate of what to do to make ends meet especially the poor ones in the society. With no other option left for them they decided to join cult to acquire wealth and make life easy or them.
Corruption/Indiscipline: In a developing country like Nigeria, where corruption and indiscipline are on high rate and government are not doing anything positive towards this direction, the hearts and minds of people are being toyed with thereby exposing them to join one cult group or another who can give them a listening ear.
Insecurity: There is insecurity in the country. A lot of negative social events are happening here and there. Lives and property of individuals are at stake here. We have terrorist attacks, Militant group, suicide bombers and what have you. People found out that the country is no more save, so they join cult for protection of their lives and property which the government failed to give them.
There are still other causes like influences of bad friends, taking of drugs/substances etc.
