A professional Nigerian pilot has fufiled his dream of biking from the UK to Abuja. The 14 day journey saw him through many countries. Some other bikers are now convinced that they can make it to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa on bike. I just hope he is mentioned by the Guinness Book of WR.

Because he is the "first" Nigeria to achieve such a feat.

Realistically it is possible, in fact if you want to cut out the tourism and site seeing it can be done in 7 days.

Dover to Gibraltar 1400 miles approximately 1.5 days easy going at 70mph, cross ferry to Tangier, Morocco, as you can guess tarred road all the way, and you can easily with a bit of caution hit beyond the 80mph to save time.

From Tangier, Morocco all the way to Nouakchott, Mauritania 1300 miles, 85% tarred road, passing the cities of Rabat, Casablanca, Dakhla, in Morocco and crossing the 3 mile no mans land into Mauritania and the cities of Nouadhibou and finally arriving at Nouakchott. You don’t have to rough it there are Decent and cheap hotels all the way so approx 2.5 days of driving its up to you. (http://www.hansrossel.com/travel-information/morocco/dakhla.htm )

From Nouakchott to Bamako is 650 miles, you have 3 days left, you are now right in West Africa, options are all your own Accra, Ghana is 700 miles away , OK for night driving and almost 24 hr electricity and armed robbery is rare, Lagos is about 900 miles.

Ages ago I did raise a thread London to Lagos by road to gauge interest most of the contributions were in the negative, in fact it seemed there were more women with liver and interested, however, I have not completely shelved the idea.

Very Interesting. grin

Until now I believed I love adventures, the higher the challenge the better, but now I can see old age is setting in cos I wouldn't dare travelling by road from UK to Naija. By a cruise ship yeah, but by road either by car or bike, NO. grin
