Before you shoot down this administration that we are all praying God to help, let me tell you something. Some sensitive documents(large) were usually bn sent to me from Lagos through Aero airlines. Those docs will be properly documented at the front desk, with waybill numbers given but when I go to the airport(ABUJA) to pick them up, I will discover the waybill given us never existed. I will be asked to go to one back gate and meet some hard looking guys to collect my items. Deep down, I knew it was 100% illegal. Aero shut down last year and we switched to Arik. Their staff too were doing the same thing and I can remember telling one of their staff this. ''If AERO sacked staff were given another opportunity, do you think they will still practice ds illegal things that kills the company?'' Not up to 5 months after I spoke with him, the company went down. Nigerian employees need a better orientation about the govt, companies or organizations they work for. We are not content with our salaries and trying to short-change the company puts your own job in jeopardy in the nearest future. Imagine millions those airlines lost to illegal practices by the staff. Millions of naira not remitted into the company's account and yet when the company goes down, we all rush to the door of the government shouting foul play.

Arik airline once swapped my MD's first class seat for one unknown senator's economy seat last year because they were given maybe 10k tip to do so by the politician that has only 4 years in his job. I can remember my MD telling the Arik people that whoever the senator is and no matter how large his extended family is, he can feed them for the next 10 years( him bn a billionaire). My MD had to wait till the next day to fly his usual business class. January this year, himself with the company switched to airpeace. Ask me if they have not finished spending the 10k given them. Now they face sack. Government has its own blame too but majority of the blame goes to the so called owners and staff of these companies.

Have a good weekend bro and let's keep praying for this nation. E GO BETTER ONE DAY LAGBARA OLORUN. CHEERS.

Brother nice piece there but sincerely all these are stories that touch.
I thought there is supposed to be a regulatory agency for each parastatal and sector of the economy

They actually exist my bro, but we don't see them working. Few working must have bn motivated(bribe) before they even do the job govt employed them to do. I'm already in my office as I type but those agencies don't open until 10am and by 1pm they are all gone. Today being Friday, you go there and they jokingly tell you that everybody is a muslim today that they are going to mosque(meaning no work). Their productivity is absolutely low. God help us all.

I thought there is supposed to be a regulatory agency for each parastatal and sector of the economy , or isn't this the same corruption that the government promised heaven and earth to stamp out?
Didn't they know it would be an easier task to raise Awolowo and Tafawa Balewa back to life than stamping out corruption as promised?
This was why we voted them in ffs .
If this were a capitalist economy, we could blame individual companies but this our economy which we claim to be mixed is 99% socialist, afterall government still dictates price and how companies should run even in a supposedly free economy.
Bottom line : the corruption you have seen in the organised sector is peanuts compared to that in public service. It all boils down to one thing : GOVERNMENT

And my question is who is GOVERNMENT? Bro na you and me. without us there is no they. That's what we are yet to realize in this country. We hold the power but we made them think they do. Look at this assumption. ''President Buhari orders his cabinet to do something that will kill this country, cabinet doesn't like it they didn't carry it out. He wants to drop them forcefully but the security(SSS, DSS, ARMY ETC) refused to act. He runs to senate, senate didn't move an inch. So where is the power? Lies with us.

Poor workers always at the receiving end of Managers mistake, the former owner of ARIK is some where in a Carri-bean resort sipping champagne and enjoying broads.

With just 8 planes, retrenchment is the only way forward, as they have to cut cost. They should have used local staff for all operations, that way thy would have saved costs.

This administration is not responsible for that Oga. It is the irresponsibility and selfishness of the previous owner that has put Arik in this mess. Please stop apportioning blames just because you can!!!

It is inevitable.... You cant keep an overbloated workforce when trying to turn around an underperforming organisation
In the first place, there are too many staffs on the wage bill,a lot are doing virtually nothing.... It is not sustainable to run a company/business that way.
Things will need to be streamlined.. There will be pain, but eventually if done right, the gains will compensate!

I think companies should incorporate whistleblowing procedure into their website whereby people can anonimously report issues. Arik had this financial coming. There are some times you go to their website to book a flight only to find it is fully booked. When you go to the airport to book other flights, you will see touts selling the Arik flight tickets at a higher prize to people. Where did the touts get the tickets from? Sometimes the plane will go half full because of hoarded tickets. The staffs have already collected their payoff/ pension from all these shady practices.

I was wondering when am I going to read a rational and sincere perspective to what led to Arik's demise, not some old regurgitated nonsense some of other posters are putting up there. It is obvious even to the blind that Arik's Management is the sole reason why the company went down. Chief Arumeni Ikhide to me just went into a business he had no capacity to run. Pray tell, how do expect an Air line that is marked with characteristics unbecoming of a sane business to survive.

As far back as 2010, Arik's services had been terrible. Delayed flights, sometimes international flight get delayed in excess of 24hrs. Arik had the habit of purposefully delaying early morning local flight till around 11 or 3.pm. I remember in 2011, I was in Benin Airport for 7hrs, waitng to board an Arik flight. If my memory serves me right the flight was supposed to be around 9, then they kept adding an hour to it till around 12. Can you imagine, that it was around 12 that an official came to address us, and what was the excuse? ".....due to operational reasons". My college wanted to beat up the official. We were scheduled for a 2pm meeting in Lagos, yet we left Benin at 3.30pm.

If you looked into the antecedents of Nigeria businesses and why they are not sustainable, the same old trend plays itself - Corruption from top-bottom, irresponsible leadership, lack of foresight(they don't know they are in a marathon and not a sprint race), negative attitude of leaders and workers....and many more

For those of you blaming the present govt/PMB for Arik's demise, your idiocy has just reached a higher octane level. Was it Buhari that plunged Arik into the level of Debt they found themselves in? Was it PMB that caused Arik's services to be so bad that passengers luggage was siezed in New York for 2 weeks (kept in the open) for Arik's debt to freight company? Was it PMB that caused Arik to default so badly on local loan that the local bank had to seek for an Amcon take-over? Some of you, your education is not only a waste, but your undoing, i.e. you would have been more manageable as crass illiterates.

"written nonsensical" shocked shocked shocked? I don't get you.
1. That the company was mismanaged is obvious
2. That the company drove itself aground, there is no gain-say
3. That people adduced reasons that beggars belief is another

Meanwhile. If you didn't get me, the thrust of my submission is that you're about the first person to give a rational perspective to Arik's case in comparison to others, so which one is your grouse?

Meanwhile, what question do you expect me to ask you as ex-insider? I will rather give personal and "external" perspectives, tell me which one is wrong
