Peace Corps Sue Fg, Dss Igp Demands N2b Compensation by idris4r83(m): 6:20pm On Mar 10, 2017
Peace Corps says it wants to be paid N2billion as damages for the harassment arising from the arrest and detention of its members and closure of its offices across Nigeria.
– PCN joined the AGF, IGP and DSS director-general in the suit in which it alleged that its rights were trampled upon.
– The organisation also wants the departments and organisations the three defendants represent to be restrained perpetually from carrying out such action against the Peace Corps ever again.
-The Peace Corp wants the alleged harassment of its members to be stopped.
The Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) has sued the office of the Attorney–General of the Federation (AGF), the Inspector–General of Police (IGP) and the Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), Daily Trust reports. The suit is demanding a N2billion compensation over the unlawful arrest and detention of its National Commandant Dickson Akoh and 49 others last week.According to PM News, PCN, through its counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN) wants damages paid to it for the embarrassment caused the organisation and its Incorporated Trustees by the arrest and detention of its personnel in what it termed “an unlawful raid of the organization’s new Headquarters last week by a combined team of Police and the DSS”.In the suit which was filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, PCN also wants declared illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional the arrest of Akoh and other officers of the Corps plus the sealing up of its head office in Abuja and offices in the 36 States of the Federation.
According to PCN, the court should also declare that under the 1999 constitution as amended, it has not done anything wrong to warrant arrest, detention and sealing up of its offices across the country.
Peace Corps also wants presiding judge Justice Gabriel Kolawole to declare that the organisation and its members are entitled to Fundamental Rights to acquire and own properties, lawful assembly, freedom of movement, personal liberty and dignity of their human persons as guaranteed under sections 34, 35, 40, 41, and 43 of the 1999 constitution.
PCN also applied for an order the police and other defendants unseal its headquarters and its offices nationwide and release properties seized during the invasion of its property. They also want the defendant to be restrained perpetually from further harassing, intimidating, arresting and or detaining the applicants in the course of doing their legitimate and lawful duties.
Recall that the power tussle between the Nigeria Police Force and the newly inaugurated Peace Corps took a new dimension following the raiding and arrestingof the national commandant of the corps Ambassador Dickson Akoh. Akoh was arrested close to midnight on Tuesday, February 28 after the police raided the national headquarters of the corps in Abuja.

I don't think this is a wise thing for d Peace corps to do @ this time. It simply means they wanna fight the govt & still expect such govt to sign their bill?
