Following an announcement that a body suspected to be of a doctor, Allwell Orji, who was reported to had jumped into Lagos lagoon on Sunday was recovered, both Nigeria Police and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), have disclosed that the family of the victim identified the remains not as their drowned son.

Confirming the latest development about medical doctor, the two agency hinted that the family were invited to identified the body immediately after it was recovered from the lagoon earlier Tuesday.

However, the body recovered was thought to have been that of Orji who jumped into Lagos lagoon from top of Third mainland Bridge on Sunday evening after he told his driver to pull for him to relieve himself.

The spokesperson for Police Zone 2 Command, SP Dolapo Badmos, disclosed that the victim's mother who was invited to identified his son, rejected the body recovered by marine police, the deceased was not her son

She said: "The woman told us that the body recovered was not that of her son and that the cloth on the remains recovered from the water was not the last dress the doctor wore before departing the house".

The General Manager, LASEMA, Tiamiyu Adeshina, confirmed that a body was recovered at about 10 am and that the family of the doctor was alerted, on the arrival of the remains.

Briefing journalists during an interview on the body recovered, Adesina said that the family claimed that the recovered body wasn't that of Orji who committed suicide on Sunday by jumping into the Lagos lagoon.
