The 2016/2017 PL season was preceded by the arrival of some big managerial names to take over the helm at some of the biggest clubs in England. Two new managers arrived and took their places at their various clubs while two others had been in the league for a while and just had a change of clubs, albeit relatively bigger moves. We’ll be looking at Man United, Chelsea, City and Everton.

The Spaniard, Pep Guardiola was hired by Manchester City. One of the new faces in the league, he arrived with a brilliant record of bossing the leagues where he had managed and had laurels to show. His previous side, Bayern Munich had owned the Bundesliga while his club before that, Barcelona, had owned world football at club level during his tenure. He arrived with a huge reputation and much was expected.

The Italian, Antonio Conte had just managed the Italian national team and enabled them to punch above their weight in the Euros in relation to the quality he picked for the tournament. With his traditional 3 at the back formation, they had progressed to the quarter finals against all odds before being knocked out by Germany via penalty kicks. He was hired by Chelsea to help steady a sinking ship.

Dutchman, Ronald Koeman was hired by Everton going by his exploits with Southampton. This was considered a bigger and better move by pundits as he was going to work with better quality and have access to more funds to help build a formidable side. His move from Saint Mary’s to Goodison Park was the least publicized among the rest

Portuguese Manager, Jose Mourinho now currently referred to as the calm one according to his request made his dream move to Old Trafford to manage Manchester United after a poor season with Chelsea. His move to Manchester and Guardiola’s arrival at Manchester pointed towards the prospects of tough encounters when the two Manchester rivals would meet.

These are the four managers and their sides are currently in the top 7 of the league table. We’ll be looking at their head to head against each other.

ANTONIO CONTE’S CHELSEA

They sit top of the table with 69 points
They beat Koeman’s Everton 5:0 at Stamford Bridge
Beat Mourinho’s Man United 4:0 at Stamford Bridge
Beat Guardiola’s City 3:1 at the Etihad

JOSE MOURINHO’S MANCHESTER UNITED

They sit 5th with 52 points
Lost 4:0 to Conte’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge
Lost 2:1 to Guardiola’s City at Old Trafford
Drew 1:1 against Everton at Goodison Park

PEP GUARDIOLA’S MANCHESTER CITY

They sit second with 59 points
Beat Mourinho’s Man United 2:1 at Old Trafford
Lost 3:1 to Conte’s Chelsea at the Etihad
Drew 1:1 with Koeman’s Everton at the ETIHAD
Lost 4:0 to Koeman’s Everton at Goodison Park

RONALD KOEMAN’S EVERTON

They sit 7th with 50 points
Lost 5:0 to Conte’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge
Drew 1:1 with Mourinho’s Man United at Goodison Park
Drew 1;1 with Guardiola’s City at the Bridge
Beat Guardiola’s City 4:0 at Goodison Park

Conte has had the upper hand so far in the first leg fixtures with a 100% record, with his side being overwhelming favorites for the title currently. Guardiola hasn’t really lived up to expectation by his standards. Jose Mourinho is still trying to make Man United relevant. They have been on a decent run of form recently, which should be, as they’ve spent millions to bring in quality. Ronald Koeman’s Everton are improving as his side parades the highest goal scorer in the league.

The second leg fixture between these managers towards the end of this season should be exciting as their clubs appear to be in relatively good form at the moment. They would want their revenge against Conte’s Chelsea.
