Fresh facts have emerged over the alleged murder of two children by their mother, at Omaba Phase II area of Onitsha, Anambra State. Daily Trust investigation revealed that the suspect, Mrs. Chinasa Orizu, had suffered from post-natal depression, having delivered about three pregnancies through Ceaserian Section (CS) without seeing a doctor, which resulted in psychiatric issues. The source said the suspect had severally complained of the husband’s alleged infidelity.

“In an effort to find solution, the woman visited a prayer house where she was asked by the pastor to fast and pray for some days. The woman started having some visions that there were witches in her residence causing disharmony between her and the husband and that she would use weapons to hit the demons until they died for her to get relief,” the source said.

According to the source, the woman immediately dashed to the kitchen and picked a hammer and went wild around the apartment. It was in the process of hitting the hammer sporadically that she struck her first child, killing him. “She didn’t even realize her child was already dead until she was done, and when she saw what happened, she broke into tears. It was her cry that attracted neighbours,” the source added.

Daily Trust further gathered that the four-month-old child who also died few minutes later, must have given up after being starved throughout the period of “prayers”.

The suspect was later arrested by police from Inland Town Police station Onitsha, who took her to police station. A police source said she is helping the investigation, adding that she may be charged to court or a psychiatric hospital as soon as the investigations are over.

Residents of the area were shocked. “This is very strange. How can somebody hack her own children to death for no just cause?” one of them said.
