As a university undergraduate, there are two places you could possibly live, it could be the school hostel or getting a hostel off the campus. This decision could be a bit difficult sometimes because inasmuch as you want the experience of living in a general hostel, you always want your comfort and space to yourself which is what the off-campus hostel provides.

Below, are some very cogent reasons to live off-campus:

Privacy and Space

This is most definitely guaranteed because unlike the school hostel where you get to be 8 or 10, sometimes 12 in a room which means there is little or no chance of having a quiet time or alone time, there would always be people coming in, going out, sounds, talks. But when living off-campus there are restrictions to this, as only people whom you know or want to see can be allowed into your space. Giving you more time and opportunity to think and process.

Time Planning & Management

Allows you properly regulate your activities according to your time. Not swayed by sudden events or occurrences which are more likely to happen in the in-campus hostel.

Self Discipline

Gives you a sense of responsibility which includes the proper management of your resources and possessions. That way you are able to know when to be home without being told, what to do and what not to be done.

You can choose your visitors wisely

People who live on the campus are fond of getting unwarranted and unplanned visits because it is so easy, all that has to be done is to know your hostel and room number and voila, they are there! But when in your own hostel, these are not likely to happen because in some hostels, you would be asked for whom you want to see by the security personnel and the person’s room number. In some occasions, you would be asked to call the person on the phone to confirm. So, I don’t think anyone would go through the stress of a surprise visit if the person is not expecting you.

Comfort is Unmatched

Bigger bed, bigger space for your early morning yoga, your own mini balcony for the cool morning breeze and vitamin D, your own bathroom. Everything exactly how you want it, and where you want it to be.

Aware of Safety Precautions

In order words, it prepares you for the future, makes you aware of our environment at all times. When to double-lock your front and back door for the night, close your windows before you leave for classes in the morning to avoid sudden rainfall getting into your room.

No Limits

In Usher Raymond’s voice ‘No Limits’, no restrictions, no holding back, no rules to look up to, nothing. It is just you to yourself however you want it, whatever you want to do. Now tell me, who wouldn’t want to throw a birthday party on a Tuesday?

Hope this was useful, and if you think there are more reasons why you should live in an off-campus hostel, leave a comment below and let us know. And if you haven’t found that awesome off-campus to call home? HostelsVilla.com got your back.
