Background

Afolarin. a 42 year old man had his car impounded and fined NGN 80,000 by the Eti-Osa office of te VIS.
His offence was that he was driving with cracked windscreen.
Two weeks later, he was able to raise the money to pay the fine in order to retrieve his car then the bombshell came.
He was directed to the Ojodu Berger office where he was informed that his car had been burnt. 'shooooo'
He was offered NGN200,000 as compensation by one official named Akeem, Afterwards, he was taken to Toriola, the director's office. This power drunk director assaulted him, accusing him of deliberately burning his car at their office.
Afterwards, his shoes and phones were seized on the directors order and he was detained at Ogombo police division for three days. Thereafter, he was asked to sign an undertaking not to report the case to the press or post it on any social media.

Our take on the matter
Why? Why? But Why? 'Kilode?'
Apparently, the VIS officials knew they did something wrong that was why they threatened him not to report to press or escalate on social media.
Some of our public officials in Nigeria are devil incarnate. This case just validates that.
Motorists should at all times ensure that they do not contravene any rule to avoid harassment by traffic officers.

Conclusion

We are glad that Mr. Femi Falana, a human rights lawyer has taken up this case.
It is not enough that the man should be compensated commensurately, those officials too should be sacked if found culpable after investigation. That is if the Lagos state government care about good governance, social justice and fairness.
