The Phrase "Good People" by holatin(m): 9:02am On Apr 10, 2017 |
I am creating this thread based on how some nairalander responded to a comment from mologi when she used the word "good people" for one person on this thread https://www.nairaland.com/3732490/bisolas-fans-react-un-ambassadorial she is right with her statement. Reason why a lot of people don't know is dat 1) we will rather castigate people instead of correcting them. 2) a lot of us watch only our local made movie, trust me you can't learn more about the language English when you watch only Nollywood. in fact the first way I know "good people" isn't vocal bomb is by hearing it in foreign movie especially US TV series. I had to satisfy my curiosity by researching why the word people will be use for a person. and that is how I came across the The New Partridge Dictionary of Slang and Unconventional English. published in 1894 Gud people (noun) is a person who can be trusted and counted on. English isn't our language so we should take it easy and not put people down when they speak it (badly) olawalebabs, Richiez , Fynestboi, lalasticlala
