First seen in 1989, the Discovery is for many an archetypal 4x4 - one which can both drive up cliffs and (more usually) down to the school gates, without costing the earth

They'll either be 2,0L T-series Rover I4, 3,5L / 3,9L V8 petrol, or 2,5L TDI.

As your cars are coming from North America, they'll both be V8 petrol models - no other engine type was available in the United States.

Nice cars, and the V8 motors will happily do 300,000 miles. The Rover V8 was originally built in the US for Buicks, and purchased by Rover in 1965 for use in Rover models. The same basic block is still in use today, and has powered a great number of vehicles, including the British sports car, TVR Cebera and Griffith, where the original Rover V8 was enlarged to 4,0 and 5,0L.

So, the V8 is a strong, well-proven unit, and parts for them are plentiful. The fact this motor dates back from 1961, and is still in production today, says a lot about the durability of this engine.

Very Interesting question.

The Discovery still retains its value. But il be honest and wont lie for the sake of making a sale, Fuel economy isnt the cheapest and neglecting proper servicing can be dangerous. but parts are very affordable and ready available!. Needs plenty of space to park and will roll about on corners, but this is a real off-roader (and very capable). Ride quality is generally smooth and quiet, four-wheel-drive system is permanent.
