It used to be a major means of transportation - safe, efficient and reliable.

It moves passengers and goods from the ancient city of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital to other parts of the country.

For those who traded in the 50s from the southern to northern protectorates, there was no better means of commuting. The trains were the elite and commoners first choice except they chose to ride on bicycles or walk the distance. The success of the rail network was known across the country and served as a symbol of national unity and prosperity.

But today, it appears the former national treasure has become a national embarrassment. Bounce News visited the Western Nigerian Railway Cooperation headquarters in Ibadan where we see the footprints of waste and corruption.

Presently, over 100 shunters, passenger coaches and freight wagons have been abandoned. The remains are at the mercy of reptiles and other animals that now reside here.

The rail tracks, numbering about ten, have been embraced by rust and weeds. People stay away from here saying criminals lurk around waiting to pounce on their victims.
