urgent advice needed: we are opening up a land for ploughing, its a light vegetation. its been used for yam cultivation recently but some trees are on d farm. I had wished to use power saw to cut down to ground level so that tractor can plough freely but thought might have some disadvantage. bulldozer is working nearby.we want to cultivate several hectares. Pls experienced farmers' advice needed

Bulldozer is faster (saves time) and more efficient (uproot trees) and will even gather the cut down trees in one spot where they can easily be burnt or transported. Meanwhile in terms of cost, it will be higher than the power saw. But since you said the bulldozer is presently in a neighbor's farm, the cost might come down. I will suggest that you go over and negotiate the area you will want it to cover and if the cost is considerably within your budget, then go for it.

Please, the use of bulldozer will primarily depend on the type of crops you intend to plant in the first three (3) years. The top soil is most important for all crops and with the use of bulldozer, more than 80% of the top soil is lost no matter how experienced the operator is. If you intend to plant legumes likes watermelon, melon, Cowper, etc, you can make use of bulldozer, Otherwise, the plot can initially be cleared manually after which you can make use of a tractor.
If you intend to plant a major crop and still want to engage a bulldozer, you are advised to plant legumes on the farmland for at least three years before attempting the major crop. Have a fruitful year. For further advice, you can call thru 08056945865.

@adeniyi thanks for rich advice. D bulldozer is to spot-stump,just to uproot d trees. however trees are closer in some places which may make it look like clearing
