Finding the perfect sunglasses isn't as easy as people may think. You can't just go out there and buy any one you feel like buying.
And, this is important because sunglasses does not only shield your eyes from the sun, it also makes you look cooler and classy.
However, in other to achieve this, you need to know the sunglasses that perfectly fits your face. And in other to attain success in this, the necessity of knowing your face shape, therefore, becomes a factor which cannot be overemphasized.
How can I know my face shape?
This is relatively easy to find out. If you have a heart-shaped face, which is the most common face shape, the narrowest point of your jawline. For a round face, however, your face is widest across your cheekbones and narrower at your forehead and jawline. If you have an oval face, your face is longer than it is wide, this is the most versatile face shape and finally, for a square shaped face, you have a strong jaw, wide forehead and cheekbones. Now that you know your face shape, the next step is to know your exact face shape and width as this will affect what size of shades look and feel comfortable on you.
Knowing your face length and width
Face width is measured from temple to temple. You need to do this in order to make sure that you don’t choose glasses that are too big or too small for you. Narrow faces usually have between 110mm up to 125mm, so you buy glasses sized between 115mm to 129mm. While medium width faces are usually between 125mm up to 135mm and should get glasses between 129mm to 140mm. Finally, for a wide face, the measurements should be between 135mm up to 152 mm and should glass sized between 135mm up 152 mm or above. As for your face length measure from the top of your forehead to the bottom of the chin. If your length is bigger than your width, you have a long face and if the width of your face is approximately the same as the length or a bit higher, you have a short face. Tall frames will work best for people with long or tall faces as they will take up space and create an even ratio between the glasses and your face. For short faces, shorter frames will work better for you because it won’t take length away from your face. People with small faces should try as much as possible to stay away from thick sunglasses and go for narrow frames.
What types of sunglasses are good for round face?
If you have a round face, square or rectangular frames would be perfect for you as angular lines balance the roundness of your face and as an added bonus, it works well for both men and women. It adds definition to your face and also gives the illusion of a contoured face. There is also the choice of highly immortal cat silhouette which will compliment all your features, lift the face up and slim it down. r Round faces should completely stay away from circular frames no matter how stylish they may be. Circular frames make the face appear rounder than it already is, also thin rimless frames should be avoided as it would make the face look unnatural.
What types of sunglasses are good for square face?
A circular or round frame can be used to soften up a square shaped face, just as long as everything is in the right proportion, the larger your face, the larger your frames should be so it could appear smaller and draw attention away from the chin, which is why oversize frames would work very well for this face shape. You should choose frames that extend past the widest part of the face, this will give a rounder overall illusion to your face. Frames that sit high up on the bridge of the nose and metallic ones blend in easily. Square faces should stay away from boxy shaped glasses because they will draw more attention to the features you wish to diminish, in other words, nerd glasses are a definite no go area.
What types of sunglasses are good for heart shaped face?
Unlike other face shapes, people with heart-shaped faces should try as much as possible to show off their features rather than hide them. Look for frames that are wider than your forehead like the cat eye silhouette. Choose simple frames with low set temples that will widen the look of your face on the bottom or round frames will draw eyes away from your forehead. Avoid shades with dark frames or decorated tops, as this will draw attention to your forehead. Due to your delicate features, don’t choose frames that are too heavy, they would just overshadow your face. The best kind of sunglasses recommended for this face shape are aviators, not only do they flatter your face, they also make you look cool and sexy.
What types of sunglasses are good for oval-shaped face?
If you fall into this category, you should feel lucky and everyone should be jealous of you. People with oval faces don’t find it hard when picking sunglasses because they look good in almost any type of frame. Now, just because you can wear basically any frame doesn't mean you should just pick anything and call it a day. You should choose something that will enhance your features. The most common frames for oval faces are rectangular frames but you could also go for anyone of your preference like the trendy cat eyes or the aviators. Your concern, however, should be the size, proportion of your features and of course, colors. Choose colors that match your hair and eyes and if you have smaller features avoid thick and large frames because they will overwhelm your face. Also, stay away from frames that are too wide, there shouldn't be a gap between the sides of your face and your sunglasses, simply put, choose glasses that are the same width as your face, not wider.
In conclusion, you should be reminded that your sunglasses does not only make a statement, it also reflect your style.
