It is of course known that ethical issues have implications for cultures, therefore cultural diversity is surely a factor in discussing ethical issues.
Our culture in Nigeria has inculcated in us the concept of respect for elders especially and for human life generally. We are therefore tasked with the duty that all persons be respected without any conditions attached, even she faced with people who have antisocial or self-defeating behaviors.
To achieve this as individuals we must of course take a conceptual separation of person's from their behaviors, and then ask what exactly is the "innate human dignity" of the person that requires our respect?
The humanistic philosophy states that 'we must respect every human being simply because of his or her uniqueness and because he or she shares with us the human condition'. This conviction is based on the fact that the dignity and worth of an individual should not in anyway be diminished or lost through any deficiency, attribute, or failure in or of the person.
This concept of behavior as being separate from the person is constructively helpful to us in another way. Respect for the dignity of every person does not mean we accept and condone their behaviors, but rather we need to hold on to the distinction or our thinking and feeling.
Ethical principles separate the self worth of every client from his or her attributes, actions, or behaviors and this separation is used in helping people enhance, restore, or build their damaged self-esteem. Overtime, within the relationships, thus respect can act as a corrective help to erase the self-destructive messages from their past.
It should be noted that a feeling of low self-worth may be itself a part of the cause of the problem. And these persons may not be unaware of this. All they need is the assurance that its safe to be themselves. These feelings of damaged self esteem is usually masked in instances of resentment and/or anger.

i couldnt agree more babe.a vastly but steady erosion of morals and and respect for people especially amongst young people.this points to one thing i believe...alot of poor parental presence in young adults and a decline in our culture.
