The police have arrested a man, only identified as John, over the death of a girl that had been staying with him for over seven years in Gwarinpa.

Police sources said the girl had been living with the man without the consent of her relatives who claimed they did not know her whereabouts for the past seven years.

The girl was said to have died in the man’s apartment.

The sources said the suspect took the girl’s corpse to her relatives’ house around Jabi Upstairs and that one of relatives reported at the Gwarinpa Police Station.

The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Nuruddeen Sabo, said the man was detained for questioning.

He said the man said the girl died after a short sickness adding that the case was transferred to the state CID for discreet investigation.

“We transferred the matter to state CID but the doctor’s report indicated that it was a natural death that nothing was done to her that could cost her life,” he said.

Sources familiar with the case however said the man had been released after an autopsy showed that the girl died a natural death while the family of the deceased withdrew the case.

“The corpse was released to the family on Friday,” the source said.
