Fayose meets Biafra leader in prison
By Ayo Jeje
The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose has met this morning with the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, Mr Nnamdi Kanu, Irohinoodua reports. Both met at the Kuje prisons where Nnamdi has been detained on treason charges. Kanu advocates for a separate state of Biafra for people of the South East. The region once waged a courageous war between 1967 to 1970 in an attempt to break away from Nigeria.
The Ekiti state Governor Fayose is notorious for hanging on every thread for populism. Much belief that his visit to Kanu will further strengthen his popularity in Eastern Nigeria, where he is admired for his courage in promulgating the laws that regulates nomadic herdsmen in his state of barely 3million people.
In the past one year, Fayose has become a folk hero among those who oppose the policies of President Mohammadu Buhari, but at home he remains a maverick politician who relies on cheap populism and gangsterism to sustain continuous public attention. His poor state owes workers seven-month salary while he has been criticized for hunting opposition figures, including pulling down their business outfits.
Irohinoodua in Abuja gathered that Fayose met with Kanu in the early morning hours today after meeting all the security requirements set by the Prison officials.
Fayose had an interactive session with Kanu in the small ante room, hugging him and urging him to keep his spirit high.
“Im here to show that I support for justice. I do not support violence. Im here for peace and stability. I feel for the young man being kept in detention for so long”, Fayose said
