The arraignment of a traditional ruler in Ile - Ife , Oba Ademola Ademiluyi , and other suspects , who were arrested in connection with the March 8 violent clash between the Yoruba and Hausa in the town , could not hold at the Osun State High Court on Tuesday as scheduled.

Our correspondent observed that although the suspects were brought to court by the police in a white bus , they could not be arraigned as planned due to what a police source called “ lack of consent. ”
The policeman told journalists that “ the suspects will be returned to the Police Headquarters in Osogbo because the court refused to hear the case for lack of consent. ”

The police source said the arraignment of the monarch and other suspects would hold on Wednesday ( today ), after he said the issue would have been sorted out.

However , there was heavy presence of armed policemen within and outside the court premises while streets leading to the court were also manned by armed policemen.

Chiefs and traditionalists from Ile - Ife , who came to the court , were seen all over the court premises in solidarity with the suspects , who are indigenes of the town .

Some traditional rulers , led by Oba Kole Ojutalayo , have decried the arrest of Oba Ademiluyi and the alleged humiliating treatment meted out to him during his detention in Abuja .

The monarchs accused the police of bias in carrying out their investigation into the crisis , saying it was wrong to make arrests from among Yoruba alone as the Hausa also attacked Yoruba during the clash.
Meanwhile , the Concerned Citizen of Kwara State Yoruba , on Tuesday , urged security agencies to release the detained monarch, who has been in detention over the clash.

The President of the group, Mr . Michael Ologunde , in a media briefing in Ilorin , the Kwara State capital , said traditional rulers deserved respect , adding that Ademiluyi ’ s continued detention was unwarranted and could aggravate tension .
Ologunde stated , “ The traditional ruler should not be touched at all.
“ This type of thing cannot happen in the North , where an emir will be detained . Security agencies should avoid the continued detention of the Yoruba monarch to avoid chaos and crisis because we have respect for our traditional rulers . ”

He expressed support for the position of the pan - Yoruba socio- political group , Afenifere ; Ooni of Ife , Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi ; and the people of Ile - Ife .
He alleged that that the police were bias against the Yoruba on the matter , arguing that the arrest of only Yoruba youths as perpetrators of the crisis was unfair.
