All of una wen dey do masters i dey laugh una. Masters ko.
Go for professional courses, its shorter, you learn faster and best you can defend your knowledge even apply it to your lifee. Go for nebosh or others related. Its more ground. If you do nebosh you can do masters wen u get a job.
Or just act like some of my foolish friends that went into yahoo.
Ict, safety or marine training then get your masters. Nothing spoil.

If i get Nebosh ,,,,are you sure most companies are ready to hire. More so, are we safety conscious in Nigeria to be hired as an Health Safety and Environmental personnel ?

When you add together the time, postgraduate project, rent, stationeries, pocket money, stress and tuition fee for the almost 2 years to do M.Sc...

Minimum of 1 milla if you are in the sciences...

To do M.Vph or MVSc in my case is even more.

If i see 1 million naira to flip over, fhuck job.

4. MSc doesn't guarantee a Job:
They do say it is an added advantage but it is pathetic to me that even after the Msc you will still come back to send resumes, cover letters and also battle with some wicked dragnet aptitude tests. If it is sure that after my masters I will be offered a job then to enrol won't be a problem.

I share your sentiments that going for your MSc doesn't guarantee a job but it becomes difficult for you to obtain when you start working apart from doing your MBA. I will advise you do your MSc once and see it as a hurdle cleared.

That is the reason I am an advocate of gaining a certification in ICT, but some people can't see the big picture.

For regular Jobs, there are lots of requirements and restrictions...

but

when it comes to ICT, all they wana know is "Can you perform?"

What a fast way to beat unemployment

Bro I'm very much interested in getting ICT certifications,
I'm currently learning web design on my own, have conquered xhtml and Css as well as Java script,

Now learning html5, I also have knowledge of Microsoft office,

What other packages are Mostly needed? I have a lot of free time these days and your advice will go a long way to help me out

Yeah, it's always better to do your masters abroad if you have the money. Nigerian masters (with a few exceptions) are a waste of time and resources.
I think professional certificate is good. Can lift you higher.

You are wrong with your assessment of certificate...There are some certificates that will guarantee 100% employment.

Yes! I know the gravity of what I have just said. If you are into Computers, look into the highest certification in that field e.g. If you can get a CCIE certificate, you are sure of not been jobless. This problem is, it is not moimoi; and you might fail the first time or second...and without any failure, it will take you about one year of dedication to pass.

Getting a job is not impossible. Most of the people telling you that there are no jobs anywhere have jobs. How did they get it? Dont set your mind to believe there are no jobs. You already said "only teaching jobs".
The best way to get a job is through referrals. Do not be a quiet person. Tell people around you...uncles, friendss, neighbours, etc that you are searching. ..no forming.
My next door neighbour told me she was searching and i saw something that suited her and she got the job. Most of the jobs i did were through friends and family applying for me and telling people on my behalf.
I think it is better you don't just jump straight to master's without work experience especially in a Nigerian uni. My school mate did master's immediately after service. She ended up working in her mum's restaurant for a long time because she couldn't get a job. And so many others. Even some that travelled for master's and came back.
Doing master's is not automatic job security. At the same time, it is not wasted.
Networking as the other poster said is very important. Let people know.
And there's a job group on Telegram that they post jobs daily and the success rate of getting jobs is quite impressive.
Good luck

The only reason people go for their masters apart from sponsorships is becos there are no jobs, what they dont seem to understand is that an additional degree without work experience makes you more unemployable.

I hope you are well grounded in Web-Design.

It should include

HTML
CSS
JAVA SCRIPT
BOOTSRAP
PHOTOSHOP FUNDAMENTALS
FLASH FUNDAMENTALS
FIREWALLS
SEO
SEM

You know all these? They are the prerequisite to build a fantastic website... wink

Calm down
In Nigeria these days, neither masters in Nigeria nor abroad (insert here all the big schools and big courses you can think) can guarantee job in Nigeria. I have quite a number of coursemates who did their masters in best schools in UK that are either still job hunting in Nigeria, or teaching, or doing their PhD's.
So I studied all of them all my friends who did their master's abroad or in Nigeria. I realise that more education (specialisation) doesn't necessary guarantee success in the job market, especially in Nigeria.
But this might help anyone succeed in life.

1. Network/Connect. During one's masters in Nigeria or abroad, don't overstudy, the best graduating student doesn't get the job these days. Seek out to build healthy relationship with your schoolmates especially those who are or related to politicians, wealthy men and company owners, even your lecturers or those whose minds are in starting up their company.
2. What I learned from The Social Network movie, was from statement the VC made. He said "Harvard students are told that creating a job is better than looking for one". Start small, think global. Learn as much as you can that'll make you succeed not just only your course work. Talent is overrated.
3. Stay abreast with the latest technology trend, you don't have to be geek. For when robots or different technology invention steals human jobs you'll stay relevant because of your little knowledge (which you can make grow as opportunity demands) of that invention.
4. Always do number 1.

I'm applying this too.

Nice one. Points noted.

If you are free after NYSC, I'll advice you go for your masters once and for all. Its not a guarantee but it is an added advantage sha and in the future it might be useful so its better you do it now you are young. Employers now prefer employing ond holders cause of cheap labor.

I will advice you learn a skill and be consistent in it, that's your best bet. That's why harvard graduates don't look for jobs. They aren't taught to look for jobs but to create businesses.

The ibos already have a model that is working for them. learn a trade, get settled and establish yourself. Most of the ibo traders you se at alaba, ladipo, comp villaa earn better than most graduates. That's the fact.

Education will make you do things better and think differently, that's the difference between you and the illiterate trader. Same difference between slot and the average phone seller. Education

In summary, go to school while you can but create a business and nurture it over time
