The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has sympathised with the Oba of Lagos Rilwan Akiolu over the fire incident at his palace recently.

The Oba of Lagos' palace was gutted by fire on Tuesday, May 2, 2017.

Speaking to Premium Times, the Ooni’s Director of Media and Public Relations, Moses Olafare said “We are not happy over the fact that the palace of Lagos king got burnt, we can only sympathise with the palace on the development.”

Following the fire incident, there were speculations that it occurred because the Oba Akiolu snubbed the Ooni of Ife at an event.
In his response, Olafare said “People are entitled to their own views. But what people say doesn’t mean that is the position of the palace. What happened is mere coincidence and should not be traced to the incident in Lagos, we send our sympathies.”

Reports say a certain Tunde Awoyeni had claimed that the Ooni of Ife palace would invoke the wrath of his ancestors on the Oba of Lagos.
