Nigerians are ashamed to admit they have no jobs. They are ashamed of answering the question, “so wetin you dey do now?” Because, well, simply put, they are jobless.

Because people expect that after graduation you should be working in some bank or factory or company. And you’re not. You feel shame. Some of you are hiding in the cities, doing nothing really, because you’re tired of answering that job question back home. Distance provides some false comfort. “I dey Lagos” is not a job Bros.

It is a thing of shame to not have a job. People want to shame you for selling shirts after graduating with an engineering degree, even when there is no engineering job for you. People can’t understand how you’d condescend to selling phones after an economics degree.

Sometimes the simple reason you don’t have a job is because there are no jobs. It is not your failing. It is not because you’re incapable of working or unwilling to. Sometimes it is simply because there is nothing for you to do. Why does this reality shame you?...read on Syncityng.com
