Wa alaykum salam wa rahmatullah wa barakathu

You beat me to making a thread about this topic. I was still unsure about creating one so jazakallahu khyran.

Prepration: Making Ramadan a top priority, reciting the Qur'an more and making dua, one of ot is that I and my family live to see Ramadan and the months after it.

I don't have any particular advise but Ramadan is a great time to pick up a habit or drop a habit. For example praying the sunnah prayers and qiyyaml al layl.

I would like some tips on working out, particularly, strength training in Ramadan as well how how to prevent hypoglycemia.

First and foremost we should make sure we are free from shirk and establish tawheed because without sound tawheeeeed your fasting won't benefit you as Allaah says "....if you commit shirk against Allaah your deeds will be in vain and you'll be among the losers"

So whatever you've hanged in front of your homes for "protection" should be removed, whatever you've tied to the steering of your vehicle to "prevent" accident should be removed, put all your trusts in Allaah subhanhu wa ta'ala, if you have all these things with you and you fast, WALLAAHI, WALLAAHI, WALLAAHI you are just working towards weight loss and eternal punishment should you die in that state, for Allaah is severe in his punishment.

Having said that, use this ramadaan as a means to drop your habit of listening to the Qur'an of shaytaan – music, do no watch movies that shirk and immorality are being openly displayed, if you watch a movie where shirk is being displayed that means you are pleased with people committing shirk with Allaah which is one of the nullifiers of ones Islam, and if you watch a movie immorality is being displayed, it means you are being pleased with the immorality Allaah has prohibited, which is sin against Allaah..

Don't waste your time with nonsense, increase your recitals of the Qur'an, make duas, pls and pls, don't engage in a dua that is bidah(innovation that was not authenticated by the prophet himself) for every bidah is misguidance and all guidance ultimately lead to hell, if you don't know authentic duas pls get the popular book "hisnul Muslim" in English called "fortress of a Muslim" or "citadel of a Muslim", you can also get it in Google play store for those using the android OS....

Don't go near prohibited things "for verily every king has his sanctuary (that should not be defiled), and verily the sanctuary of Allaah is his prohibitions" (saheeh bukhari and Muslim)

Use this opportunity to purify your heart, which can be done by making lots of authentic dua and istigfar, leaving sins, not speaking ill of your brothers and sisters in their back even if what you say about them is true, don't speak ill of them, this is what the prophet termed gheebah, its a major sin, doing these corrupts the heart, and once your heart is corrupt, everything' about you is corrupt, "for verily in every Body is a flesh, when it is good everything about that body is good and when it is bad, everything thing about that body is bad, verily this flesh is the heart" (saheeh bukhari and Muslim)...

Wake up for night prayers, don't be lazy, you'll be doing yourself good "if you do good, its for yourself.." (Quran)....

If you are giving charity, pls and pls, give it for the sake of Allaah, when Allaah was saying the characteristics of people of Jannah, He azza wa jal said whenever they feed the poor they will say "we only feed you to seek the face of Allaah, we don't need from you any reward and any appreciation", reward in this case refers to getting rewarded by people praising you, if you do it for this sake, then this is riyaa(showing off) and its minor shirk, your intention should be that you want to get rewarded by only Allaah.....

May Allaah make this coming Ramadan a blessing for us...

THINGS TO BE AVOIDED DURING RAMADAAN

1. Don't sleep during the day and pray all night. By doing this you are converting the day into night and the night into day, which is not the purpose of fasting.

2. Avoid being lazy and inactive during the day.

3. Don't waste time playing games during the day. Rather, please Allah by increasing in your worship of him.

4. Avoid having Iftar parties. Ramadan wasn't meant to be a food extravaganza.

5. Dont ask your wife to spend Ramadan in the Kitchen. Eat something light and quick - she isn't Biryani woman.

6. Spend the last 10 days worshipping Allah rather than trying to prepare for Eid! A day that is better than a thousand months is in these last 10 days. You can't afford to miss this.

7. Dont stay awake the full night. Your body has a right over you, and when it wants rest, then rest.

8. Avoid excessive socialising after Taraweeh

9. Avoid shopping a lot in Ramadhaan.

10. Dont eat the full night.

11. Dont loiter around at night rather than worshipping Allah.

12. Eid doesnt require loads of preparation. Dont fall into this trap! Keep it simple, and it will be blessed.

May we witness this forthcoming Ramadan with sound health -
Aameen....

Common mistakes in Ramadhan:

1. Drinking
Milkshakes made with syrups etc on a daily basis

- Why: It contains high amounts of sugar, additives and colourants
- Solution: If you have to, drink it twice a week maximum

2. Drinking large amounts of water at iftaar time

- Why: Filling the stomach with water is more strenuous to it than with food.
- Solution: have a few sips at iftaar then a glass after every two hours.

3. Exercising directly after iftaar.

- Why: the body's blood flow is concentrated around the stomach at that time.
- Solution: Exercise after two hours of eating to ease digestion.

4. Chewing and swallowing food fast.

- Why: chewing food slowly can speed up digestion and help maintain your weight

5. Having dessert directly after iftaar

- Why: they make you drowsy and sleepy
- Solution: leave at least a two hour gap between iftaar and dessert to stay fresh and awake for ishaa and taraweeh prayers

6. Consuming foods with high amounts of sodium

- Why: Sodium triggers thirst through out the fasting hours of the day
- Solution: instead, eat foods that are high in potassium, they retain water and supress your thirst.

# Bananas are high in potassium. A banana at Suhoor time can control your thirst level through out the day.

# Best sources of potassium for Suhoor time:
- bananas
- milk
- dates
- avocados
- dried peaches
- pistachios
- pumpkin
- peas
- dark chocolate

# Worst choices for Suhoor:
- biryani
- kebab
- pizza
- fast food in general
- cheese
- haleem

# Best choices for Suhoor:
- potato
- rice
- dates
- whole grain bread
- banana

# Drinking lots of water at suhoor is important, but not as much as drinking it through out your non-fasting hours.

The Grave is calling......! Listen very very carefully!
Oh son of Adam! I'm full of darkness so bring with you the light of Salaah.

Please do not keep this reminder to yourself, share with your beloved brothers and sisters. May اللَّهُ give us the understanding.
