Symptoms of Pregnancy Are you doubting if you are pregnant or not? This could only be confirmed by carrying out the pregnancy test. But it is possible to suspect that you are pregnant even before you miss a period. Below are the early signs of pregnancy and why they occur. Classic symptoms of pregnancy These are the most common first signs and symptoms of pregnancy. They include: 1. Missed period . Whenever a lady within the childbearing age misses her period, it is common that such lady is likely to be pregnant. However, this could be misleading especially if you have an irregular menstrual cycle. 2. Tender & swollen breasts. At the early stage of pregnancy, there are hormonal changes that make your breasts sensitive and sore. You begin to feel comfortable after some few weeks as your body adjusts to these hormonal changes. 3. Nausea, accompanied with or without vomiting. This is called morning sickness, and it can occur at any time of the day. It usually begins one month after you become pregnant. However, some women don’t experience this sign, while others experience nausea earlier. Although it still remains vague the cause of nausea, pregnancy hormones is likely to play a role. 4. Increased and frequent urination. The rate at which you urinate may increase, with an increased volume. During pregnancy, your blood level increases causing your kidneys to act on more fluid that ends up in your bladder. 5. Fatigue. This is another major sign that ranks high when it comes to symptoms of pregnancy. During early pregnancy, the progesterone (hormone) level soar and this makes you feel sleepy. Other signs and symptoms of pregnancy During the first trimester, there are other signs and symptoms of pregnancy you might experience, but they are less obvious signs. They include: 1. Bloating. You can feel bloated during the early stage of pregnancy due to hormonal changes. This feeling is similar to what you feel at the beginning of a menstrual period. 2. Moodiness. Hormonal rush in your body at the early stage of pregnancy can cause your emotions to be unstable. You can also feel weepy, and another common thing is mood swing. 3. Constipation. Due to hormonal changes, your digestive system begins to slow down, which can cause constipation. 4. Cramping. A number of women experience mild uterine cramping at early stage of pregnancy. 5. Light spotting. A little amount of light spotting sometimes turns out to be one of the first signs of pregnancy. This is called implantation bleeding. It usually occurs when the fertilized egg attaches to the lining of the uterus (about ten to fourteen days after conception). Implantation bleeding happens around the time of a menstrual period. However, it doesn’t affect all women. 6. Nasal congestion. Changes in hormone levels and blood production can cause the mucous membranes in your nose to dry out, bleed easily and swell. This may lead to a running nose. 7. Food aversions. In the early stage of pregnancy, you are bound to experience some level of preferences when it comes to taste for food.
