Symptoms of Pregnancy

Are you doubting if you are pregnant or not?
This could only be confirmed by carrying out
the pregnancy test. But it is possible to suspect
that you are pregnant even before you miss a
period. Below are the early signs of pregnancy
and why they occur.

Classic symptoms of pregnancy

These are the most common first signs and
symptoms of pregnancy. They include:

1. Missed period . Whenever a lady within the
childbearing age misses her period, it is
common that such lady is likely to be pregnant.
However, this could be misleading especially if
you have an irregular menstrual cycle.

2. Tender & swollen breasts. At the early
stage of pregnancy, there are hormonal
changes that make your breasts sensitive and
sore. You begin to feel comfortable after some
few weeks as your body adjusts to these
hormonal changes.

3. Nausea, accompanied with or without
vomiting. This is called morning sickness, and
it can occur at any time of the day. It usually
begins one month after you become pregnant.
However, some women don’t experience this
sign, while others experience nausea earlier.
Although it still remains vague the cause of
nausea, pregnancy hormones is likely to play a
role.

4. Increased and frequent urination. The rate
at which you urinate may increase, with an
increased volume. During pregnancy, your
blood level increases causing your kidneys to
act on more fluid that ends up in your bladder.

5. Fatigue. This is another major sign that
ranks high when it comes to symptoms of
pregnancy. During early pregnancy, the
progesterone (hormone) level soar and this
makes you feel sleepy.

Other signs and symptoms of pregnancy

During the first trimester, there are other signs
and symptoms of pregnancy you might
experience, but they are less obvious signs.
They include:

1. Bloating. You can feel bloated during the
early stage of pregnancy due to hormonal
changes. This feeling is similar to what you feel
at the beginning of a menstrual period.

2. Moodiness. Hormonal rush in your body at
the early stage of pregnancy can cause your
emotions to be unstable. You can also feel
weepy, and another common thing is mood
swing.

3. Constipation. Due to hormonal changes,
your digestive system begins to slow down,
which can cause constipation.

4. Cramping. A number of women experience
mild uterine cramping at early stage of
pregnancy.

5. Light spotting. A little amount of light
spotting sometimes turns out to be one of the
first signs of pregnancy. This is called
implantation bleeding. It usually occurs when
the fertilized egg attaches to the lining of the
uterus (about ten to fourteen days after
conception). Implantation bleeding happens
around the time of a menstrual period.
However, it doesn’t affect all women.

6. Nasal congestion. Changes in hormone
levels and blood production can cause the
mucous membranes in your nose to dry out,
bleed easily and swell. This may lead to a
running nose.

7. Food aversions. In the early stage of
pregnancy, you are bound to experience some
level of preferences when it comes to taste for
food. You become also sensitive to odors. Just
like other signs of pregnancy, these food
preferences can be triggered by hormonal
changes.
