Family and friends including Usain Bolt gathered to pay their last respect to the departed Great Britain High Jumper, Germaine Mason who died in a motorbike crash in April on his way home from a party.

Mason, an Olympic silver winner was a Jamaican high jumper record holder before he switched his allegiance to Great Britain in 2006. He was just weeks away from becoming a father for the second time before his unfortunate death.

Germaine, 34 was said to be attempting to avoid hitting a vehicle that had lost control on the other side of the road, claimed unconfirmed reports.


The deceased and Usain Bolt grew up as childhood friends and both are said to be working on a secret project before this unfortunate death.

Sources close to Bolt said he, is “inconsolable” after the death of Germaine, who trained with Stephen Francis’s MVP Track Club in Jamaica before moving to the Birchfield Harriers in the UK.

The Jamaican Gleaner reported that Bolt, Frater and Gardner were among first of his devastated friends at the scene of the accident on the Palisadoes main road.

“Usain Bolt was part of the group that came by,” said Senior Superintendent Calvin Allen. “He was very, very emotional – and still is.”

Aside from serving as a pallbearer, a very distraught Bolt also assisted in digging the grave of his friend, Mason.
