I have noticed with increased trepidation the menace of betting spammers on nairaland for a while now. It is becoming nauseating... Can't their IP addresses be banned?

I'm not sure their IP's can be banned but we can frustrate them by reporting the post as spam and it would disappear immediately. I do that all the time i see it on threads i visit.

You report their posts but it never gets hidden, most times, it's only hidden for five minutes then released and resurfaced again. Makes me wonder if one of the moderators gets kickbacks from the Scammers The only exception is the travel section,: once reported at that section, its hidden forever. Kudos to the moderators there.

Wrong assumptions from you. It appears that we release the spammers because they use multiple similar looking accounts to spam threads. I personally block more than than twenty of their handles daily, and I believe the other mods block just as much. Most of the ones we block are not even reported. We painstakingly have to scan through frontpage and trending topics numerous times to fish them out yet they still manage to sneak into a topic we've checked gazillion times. I'm more than fed up with them myself, I wish there was a way to make them go away forever. Please keep the reports coming.

This football bet guy, I report him like mad whenever I log on nld, the posts gets hidden for two seconds then reappears again. It's a mystery I don't understand and that have discouraged me from reporting him in recent times.

I would suggest new accounts are "delayed"/"quarantined" from making comments immediately the accounts is/are created. Like a waiting period of 2/3 weeks, as seen in the Jobs/Vacancies section.

It looks as if the hidden posts reappear but in reality, it's an alternate posting the exact thing with another account. And it's not one person, I won't be surprised if they are up to six or even ten. One person can't possibly post with such speed on multiple topics. Same page after reporting his posts and logging out. Wasted effort and time as all his posts became visible again, not up to five minutes later.
This is the sole reason I accused one of you moderators of either being behind this moniker or on his payroll.

I just can't understand how a person or group of people will assemble with data and decide that football scamming will be their source of income. Good morning Dom

I think when a person reports a post it's hidden from only your view until a moderator bans the post.
