The 45-year-old manager does not have a rich history with African players; in fact, only six have worked with him at the three clubs he has managed in his coaching career so far.

.The most successful African under Guardiola was, without a doubt, Seydou Keita. The Mali international, who became the first player of his country to play for FC Barcelona, featured 188 times under the Spaniard and lifted 14 trophies in the process.

.Yaya Toure follows, having played 80 times for Pep during his time at the Camp Nou and winning seven trophies with the manager before joining City. He reunited with his former boss at the Etihad Stadium this season, but has only made one appearance so far this campaign.

.Samuel Eto'o was fairly successful under Guardiola, scoring 36 goals in 52 games and lifting three titles before being sold to Inter Milan.

.Medhi Benatia is the only African who featured under Guardiola at Bayern Munich, and won three trophies while making 46 appearances for Pep was sold to juventus.

.Iheanacho is the Spaniard’s latest African gem, having scored and assisted three apiece in six games under Guardiola at City is closing in making a transfer to westham united.

.Wilfried Bony is the sixth African to have worked with Guardiola, but he never made an official appearance for the new Citizen boss and was loaned out to Stoke
