<<JAMB FAILURE>>

The recent jamb failures nation wide can be regarded as a sad and at the same time a good development towards improving education in Nigeria.
Though personally I didn't see it as failure, rather I see it as PROPORTIONAL; those that read hard really passed while many of those that depend on magic centers failed.
Its sad because many of our brothers and sisters would not get admission, but happy because the failure might force us to face the challenges of corruption in our educational system.

Below are the most contributing factors for the FAILURES.

1. PRIVATE SCHOOL PROPRIETORS.
About 90% of private schools now become magic centers where students pays large amount of money to pass O 'level with distinctions. This is the saddest situation because of its destructive effect on education and the society.
Apart from making the students to lost interest in studies, which make them lazy, unproductive and incapacitated, the situation also assist in corrupting the teachers, invigilators, supervisors, Custodians of exams and so on.

2. PARENTS.
It is pathetic to see parents corrupting the mind of their child. Instead of assisting them with extra mural lessons to help them face any exam with confidence, parents now strongly subscribe to paying huge sums of money to magic centers.

3. GOVERNMENT
Government at federal and state level seems to ignore the situation by doing little or nothing to curb the menace.
What is more disastrous than corrupting the mind of our youth?

4. EDUCATED YOUTH/GRADUATES.
Community service is at its lowest ebbs in Nigeria.
Instead of organising extra lessons ( free or with few registration fee) to jambites to boost their Performance, we seems not to care about the issue.
It's unwise for a graduate awaiting result to sleep day and night while our brothers and sisters are in need of your service.

I would like to suggest the following measures as a remedy to the problem.
1. The fight against corruption should be extended to educational sector.
All those magic centers are known, they should be closed.
Anybody found guilty should be dealt with severely.
Any proprietor caught practicing this unholy act should be severely taxed and the school should be closed.
2. Parents should stop patronizing magic centers, they should encourage their child/ward to read hard and pass their exams.
3. Undergraduates, graduates, corp members and elites should join hands towards improving education by establishing extra lesson centres, carrier & guidance centers etc.
