''I'm sorry, he's dea...

''Dead?'' K.C's mum screamed hard and sat on the floor, ''Jesus, God,
come and help me.''

''Ma, take it easy'' Dami said, rushing to her side.

''Oh! I'm dead o, death where are you? O! Death where is your sting.
I'm dead oh God!'' She lamented, ''Take me along death, for better or
for worse, death come and take me o, take me with my husband.'' she
continued crying uncontrollably.

Dami tried to carry her up, but she couldn't, the woman weighed more
than her. ''K.C, please do something.'' She pleaded with K.C, who has
been silent since she confirmed his dad's death.

She bit her lips in confusion, ''K.C!'' she screamed again but he made
no move to speak, he refused to even blink. She turned to her other
side and got more confused, Chidiebere laid on the floor crying her
eyes out.

''K.C!'' Dami screamed again and that was when he blinked back a tear
and took out his phone from his pocket.

He absentmindedly dialled a number and when the call got through, he
placed it on loudspeaker.

''Doctor, you said...you said, you said he will be alright.'' he
screamed into the phone.

''K.C, I'm sorry.'' the doctor replied.

''Sorry for what doctor?'' he screamed not minding the sounds of
crying around him.

''I'm sorry, your dad asked me to do him a favour''

''What favour doctor?''

''For him to die in his sleep.''

''What?'' K.C screamed loudly and looked at his dad's corpse lying
peacefully on the couch.

''Yes K.C. I'm sorry for your loss.''

''Doctor, it's okay, you did all you could.'' K.C replied, with a shaky voice.

''My condolences. I will send an ambulance over.''

''Ok, doctor.'' K.C said and hung up.

''K.C, please help me with one of them.'' Dami screamed as soon as he
put the phone back in his pocket.

K.C wiped the the tears in his eyes and went over to Chidiebere.

''K.C, what will I do? Dad is gone!'' Chidiebere shouted and ran to
her dad's corpse and began shaking him, ''Dad, wake up, dad wake up.''

K.C breathed in deeply and stood up from where he was kneeling and
went over to his sister's side. ''Chidi, please, please...'' he
pleaded, without knowing what to say or how to go about comforting his
sister.

''K.C, please call her husband,'' Dami said to him, it seems like
she's the only one in the house that still has her head in place.

''OK, I will...I will'' he replied and quickly brought his phone out again.

''...I want to die, I want to follow my husband, somebody should just
kill me, kill me''

''Mum, please shut up, you won't die.'' K.C shouted at her, confused;
about everything, about life and everything happening around him.

''K.C, tell dad to wake up, K.C dad is not dead, he will wake up.''
Chidiebere said to him pulling his shirt.

He looked at his sister and wondered if she's loosing her sanity. Her
hair could be mistaken for that of a mad woman.

''K.C, wake dad up.'' she pleaded dragging his collar.

''Chidiebere, he will wake up, calm down'' he replied and spoke into
his phone, ''Big bros please come over,'' he said, very sure that
Chidiebere's husband could hear her cry.

''K.C, dad!'' she screamed.

''Chidi, dad is sleeping, he will wake up soon'' he said and tried to
release her hand from his collar. He sighed, not knowing how he could
stay strong in a situation like this or where he got the strength
from.

''...Somebody kill me, death take me, God what am I still doing alive,
I want to follow my husband,'' K.C's mum cried out and K.C looked at
her and shook his head, thanking God she's in safe hand's.

''Ma, please calm down, God has taken him to be with him, calm down,
you won't die.'' Dami comforted, trying to hold the woman who was
rolling on the floor.

A vehicle's horn soon blared outside--several vehicles rather.

In no time, two nurses and two other male medical personnel came in
and behind them stood Ken and Nate.

''How...how did you know?'' K.C asked his friends, with a puzzled look.

''Your friend Dami called us.'' Nate said and walked up to him and
began patting his shoulder.

''How?'' K.C asked.

''I'm sorry, I called them here.'' Dami said, wiping the tears from
her own eyes and at the same time trying to hold K.C's mum in one
place.

''What? Dami, is it just me or you knew this would happen?'' K.C said to her.

''Yeah, I knew, your dad was almost dying before the doctor sedated
him, so I knew he would die in that sleep.'' Dami explained and K.C's
mum started screaming again.

''K.C...'' Dami began and he waved her off with his hand.

''K.C, I'm sorry.'' she started again and he waved her off once more
and concentrated on his sister who has began screaming again as the
medical personnels started preparing to carry the dead man away.

''K.C, it's okay. He lived a good life,'' Ken said and went over to
him as Nate left to hold Chidiebere.

The corpse was taken out as the women continued wailing loudly, with
Dami being the only woman that's not crying.

Chidiebere's husband soon came in, sweating like he came by foot.

''What happened here?'' he asked.

''Dad is gone.'' K.C replied.

''Ewoooo'' Chidiebere screamed.

''Please, take care of your wife, she's been screaming since dad was
confirmed dead''

He swiped his hand over his face and went over to his wife.

''Baby, it's okay, he has left us, crying won't bring him back.'' he
said to her while rubbing her back gently.

''Dad!'' she screamed weakly and leaned into him.

''Dad won't like to see you in this condition.'' he said again.

K.C, Nate and Ken sat watching Dami comfort the older woman and
Chidiebere's husband comfort her.

''Have you contacted Mary and Maryann?'' Nate asked, as the cry from
the women died down.

''No, I will just ruin their honeymoon.'' K.C said with his head bowed.

''We still have to tell them.'' Chidiebere's husband added.

''I will do that but I don't even know how, I don't want to ruin their
honeymoon'' K.C said again and sniffed as tears threatened to fall
from his eyes.

''Sorry man,'' Ken and Nate said in unison and placed their hand
warmly on his back.

''It's okay.'' he replied, tearily.

''Sir, is anybody going to the hospital with us?'' a medical personnel
who has been standing quietly, asked.

''No, just go!'' K.C replied.

''I'm going with you.'' his mum said and made to stand up.

''Mum, you're not going anywhere.'' Chidiebere's husband said and Dami
helped her sit back on her chair.

''You can go. Nobody is going with you, we will come there later.''
Nate said dismissively and the medical personnel nodded and left.

''So, how do we tell Mary and Maryann about this?'' Nate asked again.

''I don't know, I don't know,'' K.C cried out. ''I don't want to ruin
their honeymoon.

''What if you tell them that your dad is seriously ill, that will make
them to come back, right? Dami asked and they all nodded at the idea.

''Yeah, she's right.'' Ken acknowledged. ''That will definately make
them come back from Paris''

''Good, who will bell the cat then?'' Nate asked.

''I will do it, don't bother about that.'' K.C said and bowed his head
once more.

''I'm sorry for your loss man, when the call came in, sorry the text,
it was actually a text that she sent me. I didn't believe it at first,
thinking it's a prank.'' Nate said and nodded knowingly at Ken.

''When Ken called to say the same thing, I was shocked to my bones, he
was so healthy on sunday that I saw him during the thanksgiving, what
happened to him?''

''He was poisoned'' K.C replied and wiped the tears away from his eyes.

''What?'' Nate and Ken shouted.

''Yeah, he was poisoned. Whoever did this will not go scotfree, I will
get to the root of this and that person will pay with his blood and
that of his children'' K.C said, angrily.

''....your dad was a good man, ewoooo...what did I do to deserve this,
whoever did this to him. God will pay you back in your own coin'' his
mum started lamenting again.

''Man, this is not the time to talk about revenge, you have to call
the twins in paris and tell them to take the next flight back to
Nigeria that your dad is seriously ill and he wants to see them.''
Nate said and they all nodded except Chidiebere and her mum who were
still crying.

''Alright, I will do it right away.'' K.C said and wiped tears away
from his eyes before pulling out his phone to call the twins, who were
both in Paris for their honeymoon.



Chapter 23.

K.C sank into the chair as soon as they got into his house in Enugu.

The week, the day, they've all been hectic for him especially the day
his dad was finally laid to rest; all the women in the family had been
uncontrollable, almost jumping into the grave, thanks to his friends
and the bodyguards he would have lost atleast one of them that day.

''K.C, let me turn on the T.V and quickly make something for you to
eat.'' Dami informed him.

''Dami, no don't turn it on.''

''What? Why?''

''I know I will see the news of my father's death there, it's every
where, I can't even go on the internet as it is now.'' he said weakly.

Dami stared hard at him, ''How? I thought they was press restriction
through out the whole days.''

''Yeah, but that didn't stop his party and it members to announce his
death to the entire public, I will make sure they all pay, they will
pa...'' he trailed off when he remembered his mum's last words to him
before he left for Enugu ''Son, I don't want to hear those words 'they
will pay' from you again, Vengeance is for God almighty not you''

''K.C, are you sure you're okay, should I get you pain killers.''

''Yeah, I'm okay,'' he replied and tappped the chair gently. ''Just
come and sit here, I don't even wanna eat anything.''

''Are you sure?'' she asked, concerned about the look on his face and
for the fact that he had nothing to eat, throughout the
previous day.

''Yeah, just come and sit with me, that's all I ask''

Death is inevitable n it's comes at de unexpected hour, when you try to fight hard with either money or strength it's says No. some people just leave 2 early. it also hurts 2 loose someone you have been with all your life. I pity KC mum.
