The Truth About Addiction by michaelo2(m): 1:19pm On Jun 05, 2017
Addiction as explained by psychologytoday.com is a condition that occurs when a person ingests a substance (e.g., alcohol, cocaine, nicotine) or engages in an activity (e.g., gambling, sex, shopping) that can be pleasurable but the continuation of which becomes compulsive and interferes with ordinary responsibilities and concerns, such as work, relationships, or health.

People who have developed an addiction may not be aware that their behavior is out of control and causing problems for themselves and others.

THE BIGGER PICTURE IS THAT, EVERYONE IS ADDICTED! Yes you read that right, everyone even a baby, it now depends on what activity an individual is addicted to. This is called BEHAVIOURAL ADDICTION. Now you ask how do you know if you are addicted? Well our body gives signs to us on different part of the body, especially that which we have been using for that activity when we withdraw.

Most of these withdrawal signs include:

Hypnic jerks

Sore muscles

Sore joints

Twitching of fingers

Yawning.

These signs are mostly overlooked or seen as stress symptoms but never as signs of addiction.

Let me give you some insights as to how the body show us these signs on some common activities, which we overlook;

1. Activities that involves use of Legs for longer period of time more than normal conatantly such as:

Walking, sports that involves use of leg e.g jogging, football, or your occupation requires you use your leg constantly e.g Tailors.

If you are this category, try stopping for three days, you'd get these withdrawal signs of sore muscles or muscle pull

2. Activities that require use of the hands for longer period of time constantly which include:

Use of phone, writing, holding of items, sports activities.

If you are in this category, you'd notice twitching of the thumb of that hand after stopping for more than three days or more, like if anyone of us can stop using our hands for that long. LOL.

3. Activities that requires use of the mouth constantly

Just one activity is constant that is eating, and we all know the the sign. YAWNING. You are wondering, how can one be addicted to eating food. Let me explain, just like how some people can manage the use of cocaine and some can't as it is addictive, not every one can control how and when they eat. So yes, we are all addicted to eating but not all can control their eating habit.

4. Activities that require the use of our brain constantly for a longer period of time include sleeping.

If you are in this category, meaning yoy sleep or think more than normal then you dedide to stop for a while, you start to experience sudden jerks when you are not sleeping or when you think of sleeping.

Every one is addicted. Though some are more health troubling than others.

My younger brother who stays with me was addicted to betting (sport betting, ajansare owonjono etc). He would bet with my money 'cos he doesnt work, just an aspiring footballer. He stole 12k, 20k and 40k from me to bet, just to mention the highest amounts. His whole life was crumbling, he became a menace, everyone in the family hated him, he didnt even like his own life but couldnt help it. I would send him to my Dad's place, the family will beg me to take him back. This is a boy I am planning to send to Europe to play football. I have spent up to a million on his football career already. A very skillful footballer. If I share his videos to watch you woould want to put your money on him. He is so good I can bet he can win the Ballon D'or someday, but betting was ruining his life.

So I stopped complaining and went online to get every material accessible, I became a psychologist for his sake. I counselled him with love deveryday and gradually he dropped his addiction. He is so completely free now that he feels like burning down every betting shop he sees. I have tested him on countless occasions and he passed. He cant even steal 50 naira from me again.

Most addicts are aware of their wown problems but they cant help it. They need love and patience to help them get rid of it. Scolding and reprimanding them wont get them out of their misery.

Dont let it reduce bro. You have to kick betting out of your life completely...Continually tell yourself that you cannot win money from betting, you cannot make a life from betting, you cant marry or raise kids from betting proceeds, no one became rich through betting.

Please kick it out

Walai, you just spoke my mind.. I neva tot I am gonna be addicted to nairabet like this.. I started when I was unemployed, now I av a job, I still can't leave it.. Its bn a while I win.. On saturday, I deposited a money(30k) meant fr a project I'm doin into my nairabet account.. Within 5hrs, I lost all. I vowed nt to play again...

Yesterday morning, a thought came to me that " you can win nah, play again".. Well, I listened to the voice and deposited 5k again and I vowed neva to play again if I win or lose. I accumulated 5 matches from japan league to av 2-3 goals. And fortunately I won over 150k..

Now, my point is I remember vowed neva to play again after that yesterday game but this morning, I decided to withdraw 130k and leave the rest in my nairabet account to play with...

I Just dnt knw how to stop this.. I REALLY WANNA STOP!!!

Yh, the huge potential earning is what keeps us addicted to it. But the fact is that 150k plus all my winnings since iv started is nothing compared to what iv lost since I started..
