Despite the high school fee students of Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi are paying, the school management can't provide adequate water for the students.

Here are photos shared by blogger Ejiga Godwin, calling the school authorities to come to the aid of the students as the students staying in the hostels are compelled to queue at Block C with their buckets and jerry cans before they can fetch water to use.

Rossik told me on the other thread that before independece we had no universities in Nigeria. Now we have 200 and more.

1.It does not rain everyday

2.Digging a safe well is not a one day project....plus....water might not be clean.

The school is close to the river Benue and They have a standard water works in there so what's happening?

almost all federal universities have poor water supply

How much is the fees in University of Agric, Makurdi?

Am sure it is not up to N100000 per session.....which isn;t enough for the university's needs.

Am also sure that the university's budget is probably below N10billion. That might sound like much....until you consider that universites abroad spend about $250billion $250 million yearly (Some more than that).

ASUU-FG 2009 agreement was supposed to solve funding issues for Nigerian universities. Until the govt admitted in 2013 that they did not have N3 trillion waiting for university students.

Anyway....a university NEEDS money . Lots of it. We may have to raise fees to as high as N500000 and above before things get better.....or take a loan from IMF.

I don't think it's a new thing. Most Unis have suffered from this.
The government should be responsible if anything happens to the students. Water is very essential.

I predict that in the next 15 - 20 years, federal universities will be a thing of the past.

If started with primary schools, they made sure they 'killed' public primary schools, most of them look like solitary confinement for death row victims.

Then in the early 90s they turned to secondary schools, by the early 2000s they had almost finished all of them too. Only few missionary ones are still standard.
No teachers, unqualified teachers, bad learning environment, no learning materials, unpaid salaries etc.

Now, it's the turn of the universities, no lecturers, lazy lecturers, hostels that look like pig shelters, no water, outdated curriculum etc.

I will be 26 in September, by the time my child is old enough to go to tertiary institution, I doubt there'll be anything left of our federal universities except something is done, and soon.

Let the administration do something asap

See how dirty the environment is. They can't even see it because they are immune to it. I guess they are waiting for the school authorities to come and sweep the yard for them. This is evident in most universities in Nigeria, the toilet, bathrooms etc. Dirty Nigerians!!!

Are u serious. I pay room and board and a meal plan then your telling me to go dig a hole. The university should either charge reasonable price so they can accommodate thsee needs. They have thousands of students paying plus tax money coming in.

The water situation in Makurdi,
the Benue Capital is both a tragedy
and shame.

The town sits on both sides of River Benue,
the second largest river in Nigeria,
but water supply in this town is a
challenge that has defeated the
Intelligence of the Tiv governors.
