CR7 stays atop Forbes list of richest athletes

Real Madrid star and Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has been revealed as the top Forbes magazine’s list of 100 highest-paid athletes, with Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James as the second on the list.

With the latest revelation, The 32-year-old Portugal forward has retained his position second straight year as the highest paid athlete in the world. Ronaldo is estimated to have earned a total of $93 million from his football salary of $58 million and $35 million income from endorsement.

Forbes magazine released the list on Wednesday just days after the Real Madrid star lead his club in a 4-1 victory over Juventus that made Real Madrid the first team to retain the UEFA Champions League title back to back.

The second on the list James, is reported to have an estimated earnings of $86.2 million, making him one of 32 NBA players who made the top 100, up from 18 last year.

With his position, He displaces Argentine footballer and Barcelona striker Lionel Messi from his second place leaving him at the third position with $80 million.

Also on the top five list were included Swiss tennis great Roger Federer with $64 million income and Golden State Warriors guard Kevin Durant with $60.6 million income at the Fourth and Fifth position respectively.

The only woman on the list was Serena Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam winner who comes at 51st with an estimated income of $27 million — $19 million

Forbes which presents the list yearly arrived at the figures based on their salaries, prize money and bonuses earned between June 1, 2016, and June 1, 2017.
