HON. LOLA AKANDE BAGS LAGOS @50 EXCELLENCE IN POLITICS AND LEADERSHIP AWARD

Hon. Dr. Lola Akande, Commissioner for Women Affairs Hon. Lola Akande has been honoured with the prestigious Excellence in Politics and Leadership award at the Lagos @50 Hall of Fame Awards organised by Nigeria’s leading Independent Media firm, TECHTV. The award is in recognition of Hon. Dr. Lola Akande’s dedication and excellent service as a woman leader and remarkable improvement the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has witnessed since she came on board as commissioner in a Ministry that has been described as very complex Ministry.

Under her leadership the Ministry of Women Affairs and poverty Alleviation The Ministry organised International Day for the Eradication of Poverty to sensitize the Public on steps to take for the Eradication of Poverty, Child Abuse, Domestic Violence and all other vices that affect women & children in the State. Some indigent women were empowered with tools such as grinding machines, sewing machines and whipping machines amongst others. She has gone a Tour of various Skill Acquisition Centres in the State for an on the spot assessment.
The Ministry also collaborated with United Nations Population Funds (UNFPA) to organized 16 – days activism against gender based violence in tertiary institutions across the state and some of the state’s Skill Acquisition Centres to sensitize students on the danger of gender based violence and activities of the State Government to curb it as well as the helplines to call to report and seek help whenever it occurred in their vicinity among other landmark achievement.

Presenting the prestigious Excellence in Politics and Leadership Award, president, TECHTV Nigeria, Don Pedro Aganbi said, “Hon. Dr. Lola Akande over-all career is a model of the astute saying that “Anything a man can do, a woman can do better. Her emergence as the Commissioner for Women Affairs and poverty Alleviation and her track record as an astute politician and women leader is a demonstrate that there is no height a woman cannot attain with the relevant skill, intelligence, training, exposure and perseverance. She is a source of inspiration to many women across Nigeria today and we salute her doggedness and never say die spirit” Don Pedro Aganbi posited.

Hon. Dr. Lola Akande is a product of the prestigious Queen’s School, Ibadan, the elegant Hon. Lola Akande holds a Bachelor of Science [B.Sc. Hons] degree in Botany from the University of Ife [now Obafemi Awolowo University]; a Master’s degree in Public Administration [M.PA] with a bias for Public Policy from the University of Lagos, Akoka, and also a Post Graduate Diploma in Education [PDGE] from the same citadel.
Her foray into politics was before her appointment as Hon. Commissioner, Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. She was the Deputy Majority Leader of the 7th Lagos State House of Assembly between 2011 and 2015 and was the Deputy Chief Whip of the same House between 2007 and 2011 when she represented Ikeja Constituency II.
The Lagos @50 Hall of Fame Awards is designed to celebrate the men, women who have made impact in their various endeavors and have used their gifts and talents to improve the development of the Lagos eco-system.
