Microsoft has unveiled the Xbox One X, previously known as Project Scorpio at its E3 2017 press conference.


The company went heavy on the specs as it unveiled the console, which it claims is the most powerful ever made. In brief: a 6 teraflop GPU that runs at 1.17GHz, 12GB of RAM, full 4K/HDR support and a 4K Blu-ray drive.



The Xbox One X is also the smallest Xbox ever, though the power of its components means it has to use a liquid cooling system. The console will go on sale on November 7 for $499 in the US and £449 in the UK.

The One X’s biggest selling-point is its support for 4K, while the console is also fully backwards compatible with all Xbox One accessories and games. Previous-generation games will also get a noticeable performance boost on the One X.


Microsoft announced 42 games in development for its new system, 22 of which will have some form of Xbox exclusivity.

One of the biggest-name titles coming to the console is Forza Motorsport 7, which runs at native 4K and 60 FPS. The game will launch on October 3.

Microsoft also announced or revealed more details about a range of titles that are either launch exclusives for the Xbox One X or all-out exclusives. They include Assassin’s Creed: Origins, a prequel to the sneaky kill-o-thon set in ancient Egypt; zombie gore-fest sequel State of Decay 2; multiplayer battle royale romp PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds; co-op shooter Deep Rock Galactic; The Darwin Project; Rare’s Sea of Thieves; Metro Exodus, 4A Games’s latest post-apocalyptic offering; and Sumo Digital’s Crackdown 3, which will launch alongside Xbox One X on November 7.

For those not into killing, cutesy platform sequel Lucky’s Tale 2 and Cuphead, the latter of which is out September 29.

Microsoft also announced that a large number of existing games will receive ‘Xbox One X Enhanced’ improvements, including Gears of War 4, Minecraft and Forza Horizon 3.
